Hardee's doesn't belong in the conversation. We have Carl's Jr. out here which is the West Coast version of Hardees. Hardees IMO remains in the regular fast food arena like Burger King and McDonalds.

In-and-out isn't bad. It's pretty good, it's fresh by fast food standards, but it's just not close to the big deal it's made out to be.

Shake Shack is far better than most fast food burgers IMO, although I think their non-burger items are better than their burgers, i.e. cheese fries, chicken sandwiches and shakes. I think they by far have the best shakes.

Five Guys is weird. Their stores aren't consistent. I've had great burgers from them and some I've been to were just terrible.

People also seem to hold Steak & Shake with a similar regard to In-and-out. I think Steak & Shake has terrible shakes and their burgers are mediocre, not to mention their poopty fries.

There are a bunch of very regional burger joints I haven't been to that I hear are amazing, like Whataburger.

Fatburger is the best IMO.

Steak and Shake is by far the most unhealthy feeling burger I’ve ever consumed. I think it’s good, but I don’t think it’s worth the way it makes me feel afterwards.

Woulda been awesome if they replaced Pierre with Jackie Redmond.

Even though I hated him as a player... probably for the teams he was on more than anything else... I've always liked Keith Jones in between periods. And while I thought Jeremy Roenick got off to a really bad start, I thought he has improved. Milbury is and always will be an idiot.

Without Pierre, who will tell us what junior high school or which boy scout troup our NHL players played for or sold cookies for??? Did you ever think of THAT RW??? Who DO you like??? Anyone???

@Vic
In n Out has been around way longer than Five Guys. When I was a kid, I always heard about this mythical west coast burger that was somehow superior to any other burger. Five Guys was local to northern va before it exploded into the franchise it is now, well after In n Out had its' mythical status. The 5th location was where I grew up. Never been out West, and never had In n Out, but I can tell from the god damn pics that five guys is superior. I'll take a Hardee's burger over it, let alone shake shack. Never heard of Fat Burger, but it's probably better than In n Out.

I would say you’re jumping to conclusions, but by judging the burger on how it looks, but I’m this case you’re pretty right. In-n-Out tastes like it looks: a standard fast food burger. It should be compared to McDonalds/Wendy’s/Hardee’s, not places like Five Guys and Shake Shack.

Steak and Shake has become a mere nothing compared to what it used to be. My first encounter was back in the 90s in Lafayette IN, which is where I believe they began, and it was AMAZING. Their burgers are barely HALF the size they used to be, and the one built closest to us has already closed.

We don't have an In and Out (That's what she said) and so 5 Guys gets my vote, at least 'round these parts. There is one Hardees here in the 'burgh that I'm aware of, and it gets a strong honorable mention.

(frank) I miss Fatburger. There was one in Cranberry while I was in high school. It was so god damn good. Those chili burgers were amazing. I need a fat burger in my life.
- j.boyd919

The place I miss is CheeburgerCheeburger. Food was only decent, but the shakes were amazing. 55 flavors and you were allowed to mix. Used to be one by my local movie theater, then one in Cranberry, now there isn't one in Western PA last I checked.

Burger and fries I'm in the 5 Guys crowd. Also one of the best hot dogs, real thick.

From the last thread...

In-and-out is so so. I didn't have it until I moved to Vegas and everyone here acts like it's the holy grain of burgers and it's not. I dig their protein style when I'm going healthy.

Fat Burger is wayyyy better. I'll also take Shake Shack and Five Guys over them.

Pierre is fine in small doses. Shannon is a space filler. But I disagree with your comments on both Maclean and Kypreos....I liked both guys....both know the game and I found both to be entertaining. I’ll miss them, but hopefully the replacements will good.
Matter of opinion I guess.

the biggest issue with Kypreos IMO is that he was employed on a national broadcast, yet was EXTREMELY bias for the leafs.

Sportsnet could televise an Islanders/Panthers game, and all Kypreos would talk about would be the leafs. because he played there, it's all he knows, it's the only connections/sources he has.

if you're a leafs fan, watching a leafs game, Kypreos is perfectly fine.......if you're literallly a fan of any other team, watching any other game, he's beyond useless.

as far as i can tell, the one network that has it "right" at this point is TSN....most of the guys they have (with a few exceptions) are pretty top notch.....Duthie, MacKenzie, Ferrero, Maclennan, Lebrun, etc

O'Neill is not watchable, he's basically a younger Don Cherry.....but he's the only one i'd consider bad.

but OMFG, did NBC ever have all the worse guys....when you employ Pierre McGuire, and he's only like the 3rd worse guy you have....you SUCK. Roenick and Milbury are by far the 2 biggest idiots who are involved in broadcasting hockey, with any network, anywhere in teh world...and it's not close

I did the 1 pound burger from Cheeburger Cheeburger. Had to get a new bun halfway through because the grease had disintegrated the original one. Literally felt like I was having a heart attack a half hour later; I was legitimately scared.

The one pound burger there is the type of thing you do once then never again unless you're a true glutton.

When I was in high school my buddy worked at burger king, made me a 5 whopper patty bacon king. put like 10 slices of cheese on it. I'm pretty sure I took like 2 years off my life.

In response to the blog, Pierre is just annoying in broadcasts. He tends to interrupt the flow a lot, always asking Eddy dumb random questions. I think this is a good move for a newer younger viewership.

With that said, I have listened to him on the radio a few times and he is fantastic. Smart, informed, is able to actually articulate his thoughts over a normal period of time as opposed to the short burst they give you on TV. It's night and day.

Hardees bakes their own buns, and does a lot of other stuff that other fast food places do not do. They used to fry their own chicken and use their own blend of ground beef as well. They are definitely not in the same tier as wendys/mcdonalds/etc. Maybe not five guys/shake shack tier, but in between.

I am a chef, so I can pick up on nuisances pretty easily. I'll know that your poopty bun is Sysco's frozen brioche.

it's pretty easy to spot if a place is using poop product, just by looking at it. I'm sure In n Out is a decent burger, but in the end, still a fast food burger.

These people seem to be sleepin a bit on Hardees. Firmly in between poopty fast food burger and decent fast casual burger.

No to play the food card, but I was a Sommelier, so nuance is may game. I’m sure you didn’t mean nuisance lol.

Carl’s Jr./Hardees is a step above McD’s and the lot, but the aforementioned places are just fresher when it comes to making burgers.

Then how can you put Hardees with McDonalds? Hardees is about double the price to begin with. They bake their own bread! Definitely a cut above the poop cheap options.
I'm not driving to Hardees for a burger anytime soon, I'm just pointing out that they are underappreciated in the burger game.

I think they did re brand a few years ago though, and I haven't been in a while. They've got the 5 dollar bags and poop, which tells me they went cheap.

It was pretty good, but I distinctly remember they trying to deter people from ordering less than medium which made me feel like their meat was questionable.

I had a smashburger when I was in CO this summer. I prefer five guys. Maybe I'm a bit biased though, as five guys started in virginia. There used to be a local spot called Burger Boys that I like better, but they went under.

I guess I’m trying to make the distinction that they are not a straight up burger restaurant. They are a typical fast food place that offers many different things, so the quality lacks. That’s great they bake their own bread, but doesn’t mean they make a great burger.

I think there’s a middle ground between the run in the mill McDonalds/Burger King/Wendy’s and the elites like Five Guys and Shake Shack that belongs to the Hardee’s/Jack in the Boxes/and In-n-Outs of the world.
