They have a very able backup for Lundqvist right now in Georgiev and a potential star goalie prospect in Igor Shesterkin. He put up a .953 saver percentage and 1.11 GAA last year in the KHL. Scary stuff.

If Blackwood cant keep pace that'll be our undoing in the newly revitalized Hudson Rivalry.

If you only didnt cut off the next sentence in that quote...

"Okay, that might have been a bit of an over-exaggeration but it has been a long time. Even the team that made a run to the Stanley Cup Final was top heavy (only seven players had more than 20 points). If Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Patrik Elias weren't scoring, the Devils probably weren't scoring."

You mean the part where he still doesn't mention the 2000-2001 team and only references the 2012 team? Yep, my bad.

Well Igor isn’t playing in the NHL yet and Cory might be our starter for 3 more seasons... but maybe.

I get the feeling Shero aint done.. Perhaps his biggest splash is near?
- Leniwm1

How? He has:

Acquired the best KHL LW over the past 3 seasons
Drafted 1st overall Hughes
Acquired Norris trophy winning D Subban for a prospect and a 2nd
Added CHL D of the year Smith
Acquired depth RW and PP specialist Simmonds

Not sure if he has any more moves planned, or if he has even had a chance to catch his breath. Ray gets an A+ this off season, and there are plenty of reasons to be excited for the seasons to start.

There have been rumors of Shero looking to trade for Boeser and Lanine.

It would definitely make sense for Ray Ray to check in with teams that are having RFAs or cap issues. There could be some real opportunities to improve the team.

On the other hand, I'm also getting nervous that he thinks he isn't going to be able to sign Taylor Hall and wants to add someone major.

So I'm wondering if this is just Shero doing his due diligence or if he's really trying because he feels he needs to.

I watch a TON of Jets games, and be warned, Laine is the single worst player I have ever seen in the NHL 5v5. He scored 3 goals, and 2 secondary assists to close out the second half of the season, and was a -24 on a team that only had two minus players!!!! I know +/- is not a great stat, but just watching his play without the puck explains a great deal of those stats. Yes, he has a great shot, but he does not create chances like OV, and is a MASSIVE liability when not on the PP. Watching him perform seemingly worse through each season has me questioning why anyone would ink him to anything but a 2 year bridge deal. I would prefer Boeser if that is an option. He probably has a lower asking price too boot. One of Marner/Nylander/Kapanen likely to be moved as well.

I haven't seem much of Laine, but have heard similar concerns. I'd still take him in a trade if you can make a good deal. I'd prefer the other names you mentioned but I'm pessimistic anyone is getting moved; but who knows.

If Ray Ray feels Taylor isn't likely to stay I'd try to package him up to Toronto for Marner. Not sure how the hell you value a pending UFA you can retain salary on against a younger RFA... but seems interesting to me.
