I mean he used his gangliness to accidentally break mikko koivu. I guess that's a physical talent
- jcragcrumple

He has very good speed for a man that tall and a ridiculous shot. We saw flashes of it. He should have been in Roch all year.

I am not going to argue with anyone because I too have seen Risto play badly.

I just really, really, really want to see him used properly with a more skilled team before we ship him out and he becomes a solid defender on another team.

We can all agree Tage is not good, right?

But that's the thing - if you have to shelter him he isn't worth it. I can name a ton of things that he does poorly and one thing he does well (hit in the corners). Why keep a guy at that salary that is so limited, especially when he might have value to get what you need (top 6 forward)?
- Slump Buster

I tend to agree. He will have upside value on the right team otherwise, he would have no trade value. We are not currently the right team for his set of skills to flourish.
I would not give him away, but we need scoring a lot more than we need Risto current state.

I know there are a lot of food addicts on this board. In case you were wondering (and I know you're not), doing a 72 hour water-only fast is kind of hard. I am on hour 66 (not that I am counting).

Not really

Maybe you could find a few purses for some of the players on the team.

You seem to be that type

I put Tage in the same bucket as Nylander.

Its too bad. Tage has size and the shooting ability. It is up to him to have the desire to succeed which may be lacking.

That's a fair analysis, although I'd rather have Tage than Nylander. What bothers me about both of them is that neither has ever really put up big numbers at higher levels.

Yeah, good point. It's a good measure of potential future success. If they put up good numbers in Jr's, AHL, or where ever, against the crappy teams but don't show up against the big teams or playoffs, probably indicative of future play.

Sometimes the " weakest people " are the other teams stars.

He was killing kuchorov, when we played Tampa.

Flat out destroying him and throwing him off his game.

Risto is a huge disruption on defense and a guy opposing teams do not enjoy playing against

I don't think him playing average 2nd pairing minutes is 'sheltering' him. The guy has been an absolute workhorse on a team that has been at the very bottom of the league every year since he started. It has impacted his development and his stats. He really should have been sheltered in his first few seasons so he could develop properly, but water under the bridge at this point.

I think we all agree that d-men develop slower than forwards. He is still only 24. Give him another season with this team before we shoot him into the sun.

Kronwall from Red Wings retired, maybe that aids a trade for a D? (does not mean Risto, just a D from a team that has a lot)

this is my biotch with Risto, He plays like a man possessed against Tampa, Caps, then disappears for longs stretches. If he played hard 80% of the time I would say nothing about him. I just don't think you will ever see that kind of constancy out of Risto

If you can mention the one time he played like a stud D and we all nod and know exactly what you are talking about then there is a problem.

The losing has definitely affected his play.

Risto plays hard most of the time, it's the mistakes on defense that's the liability in my opinion.

A new coach and atmosphere will help him as much as anyone on the Sabres
