If it's still the 6 piece deal that Ek was talking about, I would be curious what the rest is.

I wouldn't hate the trade for Mantha, but I'd like to see what else is involved.

I actually agree.

The hype has far, far outweighed substance with him his whole career. If this ends up being the return for Ristolainen, consider me underwhelmed.

Pickings for Risto are slim right now.
Mantha has 0.62 PPG over 3 seasons, with last year at 0.70.
He is on the same development curve that Reinhart is, could he be a 0.80 player next to Jack on line one, or fit nicely with Mitts on line 2 to enable Sam to play on line 1?
It would be interesting to watch.
I'd take him.

The boys were 50 Goals for short last year, and lost Pommers 15.
They need to find 65 goals this season...
Johansson = 20 to 25
Vesey = 15 to 20
Miller = 5sh
That is 40 - 50 so far
Throw is Mantha for 20 to 25 and BOOM, in contention.

I'll take him.

What's not to like?
He isn't a savior for sure, but another piece to the puzzle.
Underlying metrics are very, very solid.
1 st season as rookie, he posts 36 pts
Next 2 seasons he posts 48 pts, with 25 goals each.

He is Sam Reinhart.

Great, trade Risto in the division. Can’t wait to see him rough up our skill guys multiple times a year. Then again, I bet Nelson will protect them.
- Chris16

Divisions are dead. We'd play Risto 4 or 5 times a year instead of 3 in the conference or twice anywhere else in the league

I think the truth is that JB holds his cards close to the vest. Not a lot of leaks come out of his administration. If the mantha rumors are true, I think it would be the first trade that was called from the outside well in advance

So probably not happening

On the other hand, where there's smoke, there's E5

- jcragcrumple

There are two teams on a trade. Is Yzerman known to have his rumors leak? I want to say yes, because in Tampa I feel like there were tons of rumors that ended up happening.

Or maybe Yzerman takes the rumor and says, that sounds good and makes it happen? lol

Reported for disagreeing with my opinion.

If he makes it to opening night as a Sabre, you will see a new and improved Risto.

As much as I agree with most of this, Eichel should have more, Mitts should have more, Oloffson should have more. But I still want Mantha here, I think it is worth the risk / reward on this.

I think the Risto trade should be just like the Nylander trade, just get something of decent value before his (Nylander or Risto's) value hits rock bottom and you have to give something up more to move his contract.

Yeah, I agree. Trading in the division doesn't mean what it used to when you played 8 times, anyway. I'd take the best offer 100/100 times

Mantha Stats from last year:

Games Goals Assists Points
67 25 23 48

That's not bad at all.
That would be around this for 82 games

82games 31goals 28assists 59 points

Edit: a shade under Reinhart. Would you trade Risto for Reinhart? I guess it depends on who you ask for sure. But I would do it. I think Risto put up points, but his negatives were larger than his positives, so overall a negative player. Worth moving.

At this point, it seems pretty likely he'll be back. I like Risto so it doesn't bother me. I'd rather they trade him for a forward, but c'est la vie

This is where I disagree. I think Risto's value is at rock bottom right now (not entirely his fault, much was a product of his environment). Even if you are a Risto hater and want him traded immediately, do you really think with the added skill on defense and the middle six that he can be WORSE this year? If anything his value increases and you move him at the deadline for a much better return.

Or we keep him and he becomes a top pairing D man. (runs and hides)

Sure there is that side too, where you think he will "improve" his stat line enough to get a better return. I feel that he goes missing for many games and I don't see that improving. Not to mention, the situation could get worse. He asked for a trade, if that effects him more and more and I feel that once the season starts very few "large" trades happen until January at the least. So if the relationship gets worse, we will be in big trouble with any return, I feel.
