I'd take the under on erod and 40 points

What's the wager?

- Boss34

Depends on ice time and usage. I'm envisioning a situation where mitts and erod split time. If Mitts comes out blasting and shows he's an 18 minute a night 50+ point 2C, Erod won't hit 45 points.

If Mitts still looks like a 20 year old and both lines are playing 14-15 minutes, yeah erod will hit 40+ imo, provided he isn't stuck with sobotka or Okposo.

There's too much riding on an uncertain Mittelstadt for me to make a bet with any certainty. And there are too many roster variables

Ok, so you aren't backing up your claim of erod getting (40-45 points).

Too many variables to wager

Enough variables to expect 40 points out of a 25 point guy making 2 million though?

Mitts is the 2c

Your visions are a reflection of your recent Jersey purchase.

I certainly hope so. That means we're good. If erod is playing traditional 3C minutes with heavy defensive usage then beady is right. And that would be a good thing

my friend did not have a good night last night

in our 10 team 2 qb league, big money
he picks luck to be his first qb, 30 minutes later luck retires

he picks lamar miller to be a flex guy (we have 2 flexes), and the guy probably tore his acl (was on ticker 2 minutes after he picked him)

so if you think you are having a bad day, think of my friend and feel better

Luck was a risky pick in any event. He’s been China his whole career.

As goes Mittlestadt this season, so goes the Sabres this season.

Of course, that's only my humble opinion.

Based on the current roster ..... I would agree with you. That is why the potential Risto trade for a center is so important

That’s a really good draft. WR is a little weak but the rest is strong. Mccaffery is a safe pick and really great value. How many top RBs have issues right now?

Never say never, but I think a trade of Risto is becoming less likely by the week.
Teams tend to have their rosters nearly set by now making the prospect of trading away a top 6 player more remote.
Sure, it could happen and I remain hopeful it will, but I continue to think of it as a reach now.

There is roster flexibility all the way thru training camp - that’s where competition for roster spots has always taken place - and even after the season begins (however one wishes to definite that) a deal will happen if it’s thought to improve roster, because the opportunity to improve the roster will take precedence over a desire for roster stability.

Sure, it could happen no doubt.
IMO, the difficulty resides in the Cap impact...the later it gets it translates to less time for the GM's to make the necessary corrections to the Cap to be compliant on day 1 of the regular season...so would need to be pretty close to money in and money out.
Not impossible, just another complicating factor in a shortened period of time.

You really think were going to get a meaningful center for risto?

Funny how people bash him, but expect a great return

It's not unreasonable to think he could get a good return, because the GMs in the NHL are much smarter than the posters that bash him here.

That's a good point, I guess it depends on how much the poster bashes risto.

Risto is a very good 2 /3 defenseman in my book

He will be a 1/2 as soon as he gets a fresh start

I would think it will take a package of Risto + to get a 2C or 1RW.
IF I'm right in that regard, unless the "+" is a prospect or a player on an ELC, then any trade at this point is further complicated by the Cap implications.

As an example, the Oilers are about $2.4m under as they are currently built, which is where many GM's prefer to be in order to have flexibility when injuries occur, or if they want to execute a trade.
If deal went down for RNH for Risto+, where the + was say a LW like Sheary...then the net impact on their Cap is:
- $6.0m RNH
+$5.4m Risto
+$3.0m Sheary
______________
+2.4m hit to Cap, puting them right at the ceiling.

So, I would imagine they would want to push a Cap Dump on the Sabres, like Kassian or Gagner.

Meh, it gets interesting is all

Good thought

I would think sheary is safe though.

If he can reach his potential as a 2C, this team will be in so much better shape. At times he looked sluggish last year, maybe partially because he'd never played so many games in a year, but was worried it might be motivation. This says otherwise and I actually excites me.
- RhinoFan

Mittelstadt’s “potential” is that of a good 1C
He’ll be a great 2C for us
And sooner than later

This is precisely why spending assets & Cap space to get a 2C right NOW would’ve been a dumb move

And i applaud Botts for his patience
He’s building this team the right way
It’s amazing to me that some on here question it
