Skin conditions are often tied to diet but unfortunately the western world would rather medicate illness than prevent it or treat causation.

There is no way a human should be able to live healthier in Indonesia than in the developed western world other than the way we intentionally poison ourselves. Our ancestors, and not even that long ago, say 100 years ago, wouldn't recognize a lot of what we call "food"

Dermatologists just give you creams and send you back home. They never try to understand the root of the problem...

I'd have been confused when the doctor prescribed oatmeal and black coffee with a side of Metamucil

Taking fiber supplements when you're clogged is a pretty bad idea...will just clog you more.

Actually the nurse gave me a laxative, but it didn't work the first time, and then she was like "oh so you're really jammed up, must explain why you're in so much pain"

That's it right there. The money is in pushing out meds. "Oh it didn't work? Well try this one." The amount of nutritional education a western doctor receives in med school is comically low. I have friends who are doctors who take it upon themselves to try and learn about nutrition and it's impact on health but even then they get push back from the rest of their peers and industry. Money ultimately is the most important thing in this exchange

Yeah but the other extreme is just as bad the number of lies being put forward by naturopath and natural supplements sellers.

Yeah, my sister just finished med school and she (frank)ing hates that old "just give them pills" mentality.

Can't there be a middle ground where both are studied and the ideal approach is found? Oh wait...that's not profitable for corporations

Precisely. And people who try it will be like "oh I was super tired during the detox, but I feel so much better now". Well, you feel better simply because you started eating normally again, wtf.

Yeah, about 8 years ago I made an effort to drink at least 1.5L of water a day, cut out everything else (coffee, soda, juice, etc...).

Not only did I feel better, sleep better, skin was better - I lost a poop ton of weight (about 40+ lbs). I've since cut out most sugars from my diet, with the exception of the occasional desert or whatever, and I find I have more energy than when I was in my 20s.

Simple changes make big impacts.

I put down about 1.5 L when I wake up. Only detox your body needs is water
