a 1y deal at 1mln for a 23y old 56point player for example
or Meier's contract
or Roman Josi's contract
or Couturier's contract
or Barkov's contract
or Scheifele's contract
etc. etc.

- MaximusAurelius
Well, I'm sorry if you thought Matthews would sign a contract in the ballpark of those players, but they're not even in the same city let alone same playing field. It's not ideal, but it isn't bad. That's my opinion, disagree with it all you want.

People on Kijiji are such female genitalias. You undersell something already by like 30 bucks and the (frank)er tries to say they can't buy it unless it's shaved by another 10...just pay the 10 you douche it's already a great deal

A couple years ago, my sister in law (2 doors down) wanted to have a garage sale. We also have a ton of stuff...

I told my wife no way in hell, unless I am away that weekend.

I am not wasting my time haggling with rubes over an already very low price.

It would amuse me to immediately tell someone that something is no longer for sale, or up the price, like 1 nanosecond after they tried to haggle.

$5 item...
"Would you take $4.00"
"No. The price is now 25.00."

yeah, I am not a garage sale kind of guy at this point in my life.

There's a strong argument to be made that he will be the 2nd best player in the league for the next five years. Why shouldn't he be paid top dollar?

Leafs fans bellyaching about the contract need to STFU.

It's like they don't remember when Matt Stajan was our top centre.

- Atomic Wedgie

Wellfed the best prospect. Jeremy "The Most Discount Dany Heatley" Williams as a hopeful 40 goal man. Mikhail "I lit up the Q" Stefanovich.

Good times.

My therapist told me that it was better that I keep memories of those years suppressed.

it's not the top dollar amount.
it's the fact that it's just 5year .
I would have been happy with an 8 year deal at 13mln for Matthews.

- MaximusAurelius

No RFA will sign above 5 years. those days are over. Don't expect Point, Rantanen, Mcavoy to sign longer. Word is Werenski wants 4 years.

It is a really tough call. Marner is more dynamic to this point in his career and probably has a bit better numbers(?).

Eichel is a big, young center with tremendous skill. I think only maturity has held him back. He could end up being dominant in a way that Marner likely never will.

- Aetherial

I can see an arguement for both sides, however, I would take Marner on the basis that he also has potential to improve. While Eichel is probably more skilled, Marner seems to have much more drive. He captained a championship junior team and I wouldn't wager my own money on potential. Evander Kane comes to mind, 4th overall pick, lots of skill and potential - good player, his attitude and habits have been in the way of him being better.

I sell some of my tickets on craigslist to avoid paying ticketmaster a fee and because the buyer isn't charged one either, I get a better price per ticket. (frank) me though. Some of the emails are just so ridiculous, that I literally just send back No thanks without a counter. We're talking like 125$ a ticket and they'll go, I'll take the pair for 150$. I once had this 19 year old, who couldn't afford tickets, but wanted to take his father who was in the military to a game. He tried to shame me into giving them to him because his father fought for my country. I felt like saying, that's not my problem and many people join the military to better themselves, not just for service. Part of me was also like, if I knew this story to be 100% true, I might be nice (I donate a pair to military appreciation night every year anyways). It was just strange.

I sincerely doubt the Coyotes will be in Arizona in 5 years.

New owner isn't stupid.

Phoenix may be the 12th largest TV market in the US, but Houston is #8.

They have to start winning. I know 2 years ago they lost 50 million in 1 year after revenue sharing as per Forbes.

Sad part is that some people own yachts that cost that much a year in upkeep

Crazy how rich some people are.

Agree, all players listed are excellent, Matthews different. Big strong centre with one of the best shots in the NHL and can stickhandle in a shoebox. Dominating player, and as the cap goes up the star players' salaries will follow.

Like I've said before it's funny seeing fans of teams giving 5 million per to a bottom 6 player going on about Matthews making too much.

There's not a single deal Leafs can't trade right now. They are in a good spot

Man that guy underpaid.

Whatever SJ has done to that lockeroom teams should follow suit.

- Santo_44

Take a closer look at his contract. The last year is like 10 mil. This what SJ will need to qualify him once his contract is up.

This is similar to what Gord Miller was saying about Marner on a 3 yr contract.
7.5 year 1 - 6.5 in bonus payment
8.5 year 2 - 7.5 in bonus payment
12.5 year 3 - 10 mil in bonus payment
Now Marner would need a qualifying offer of 12.5 mil + 10% if the Leafs want to retain him.

Total cap hit would be 9.5mil over the 3 years.

I currently have a couple items that are in the $50.00 range that I need to get off my ass and sell on Kijiji. I would take like 10 minutes to snap pics and post an ad.

I just can't bring myself to do it. I probably will at some point.

I once tried to sell a car, I cannot tell you the number of people with ridiculous lowball offers and, like you, a few sob stories to try to get me to give it to them or sell at a dumb price.

On the other hand, nothing burns you more than trading in your car and getting literally 40% of the private sale value. I will never trade in a car again. I don't care if I have to tell lowballers to (frank) off.

I would guess the chances of low-ballers with sob stories turning around and re-listing it the same day are like 98%.

I wasn't insinuating for Matthews' to sign a contract in that range.
I was more referring to other Leafs' contracts, and the fact that some other teams to get good deals for their top players, while Leafs never seem to be able to sign their 2nd tier players to team friendly contracts.
compare Nylander to Barkov / McKinnon / Couturier contracts, and you see that the phrase being used here often 'Nylander will be on the best contract in NHL 3 years from now' is utter nonsense.

Yup! That's truly a great indicator of how your contract situation is. Granted, Dubas had to trade a 1st to get there, but that was Loulams' doing.

Look at when these contracts were signed and you'll have your answer why Nylander or Matthews aren't on team friendly deals. Young players didn't put up the fuss they are now and they deserve to be paid more. It's a fact, these kids are more valuable than the 30yo UFAs that were getting all the money. It is a market correction and the Leafs got wrapped up in a poopty time to have to resign RFAs, like many other teams currently are. What if Matthews wasn't signed right now? Imagine that? Him and Marner. No thank you. Actually, sign me up! i'm a Bruins fan so (frank) your contract situations couch!

Put them on your curb with a sign that says, "FREE TO A GOOD HOME."

You put them up for $50, you'll get haggled down to $30.

It's just not worth the time when you end up with $60.

A little of that and a little bit of timing with regards to how contracts were handled a few years back. There's definitely a mix.

apart from Rielly's contract, none of the NHL contracts on Leafs are 'great' as in trade value. the only other contract of great trade value was Kadri's, and the return was just ok there.

you're speaking as if Barkov and Couturier are 30+ years.

and both Matthews and Marner should have been signed earlier to keep their caphits lower and contract terms longer.
