Marner the 19th ranked winger

- senstroll

There are a couple of issues here to me. Overall, it's probably not that far off for established players, but it ignores development, and is using two "black box" calculations. I've screwed around with this type of thing before as well, and usually dismiss it as analytic masturbation.

With the consideration of development, players who have gotten better in each year over the past three years, have their performance brought down by the first two years; it is not implausible that Marner has acclimated to the league and gotten better and better. He was certainly a beneficiary of having an established player like Tavares as his centre, however you can't discount natural progression and development - which this list does when it reduces his performance last year by averaging against his first two seasons.

The author also doesn't know all of the metrics used in WAR and RAPM. Where there is overlap, players may be doubly punished for the poor performances of their teams (for instance if the calculation includes team performance metrics, Senator players might be more punished than others, or if the calculation uses relative metrics to a team mate, they may be unduly rewarded in this bias compensation).

Overall, you're still seeing the names that you'd expect to see in these lists - but their relative ranking to one another is probably affected by age/opportunity/stage of development.

White will be amazing because he is only 22 and will improve from his 47 points in 94 games(.5 points per game)

However Nylander at the same age has zero chance of improving from his .68 points per game

I looked at his picture on hockeyDB.

I can make a safe assumption off that that he has heart.

I watch all 82 Ottawa games and then I watch the game tape.

He skates forwards and sometimes backwards.

He turns.

He has grit based off this.

He said "I know Matthews scores more but Marner is the better player because I see him as a Jonathan Teows. Someone that does anything to help your team win."

So yeah Definitively got a nice blow job from Ferris for that one

But if there was ever a contract to put on Ferris's resume its Bolland.

A 4th liner got 1st line money long term...how?

you still don't get it. i'm not sure why i have to explain it.

but i hope you can at least agree to this:

nylander will decline to a 0.50 points per game average.

He will decline because I say so.

Could I not make it any more clear?

You're both wrong.

Nylander will regress into a soccer player, where he has all the space he needs and can run around with the wind in his hair and play on the perimeter in a sport where it is encouraged.

24 pims is not a real gritty player, is it... if he was a Leafs, others would call him soft as baby shiit.

after his first three seasons in NHL, Couturier didn't have 100points yet.
barkov had 60 points after his first 2 NHL seasons.
different players (playing different positions and in different team situations) develop differently - i hope you do agree that Couturier and Barkov are great NHL C's ?

- MaximusAurelius

You bash Nylander even though he had 60 point seasons.

But apparently because Couturier had only 100 points after 3 seasons it means White will.

You have some issues man

There is a very good chance that the sens will not have a 50-point forward, let alone white hitting 60-70 points.

Stone is no longer there to carry tkachuk and white's asses anymore.

Tkachuk will get 50. I don't think anyone will need to carry his ass.

The rest of the forwards....ugh.
