Sidney Crosby did it for the Pens. Taking a discount on Hall's contract to make the already drastically improved Devils even better should be obvious. It applies to any star player that could make their current team better by not being a greedy chump.

Name another legit Cup contender that has the cap space to take on a $11M Taylor Hall? There are teams that could take on a huge contract, but none of them are actual contenders. So, it's not realistic for Hall or anyone to think he can go win anywhere when every legit Cup contender can't afford him.

Sid did, so good point. That was 2012 and he also was able to sign a 12 year deal that made him the second highest paid player in the league and paid him until he was 37. And he was on a very stacked team so a little context is appropriate.

Yes, teams are limited because of the salary cap but you never know who can take on a contract. Nashville signed Duchene because they were able to move PK Subban to us. Teams make cap clearing moves all the time. Right now Toronto has no space for Mitch Marner and they are going to sign him to a big contract (probably) and deal with the consequences.

So yeah Taylor can't go everywhere but when you are an elite talent you will have a choice of homes. He just needs to find one place he likes more then Devilville.

To be fair and answer your question, the Boston Bruins could sign Taylor Hall. They have $ 7.29M in cap room right now (although they have to sign two RFAs). If they can do that reasonably and get a small payroll team like Ottawa to bail them out of Backes's last year ($6M) they're home free.

Unless Chiarelli is hired by Dallas there is no chance they make this trade. None.

Devils can retain salary to make Hall's cap hit 3m, so essentially any team could afford to trade for him.

I doubt Shero would send him to a non-contending team - maybe send Hall to win a Cup and then sign back in Jersey in the offseason?

I've thought about trading him to the Leafs. Wonder if they would consider something like Nylander and Sandin for Hall - maybe throw in a pick coming back to the devils. Could even adjust Nylander for Kapanen or Johnsson (both?) and switch out Liljegren for Sandin.

Ideally, you get a return like Ottawa got for Mark Stone if Hall can work out a deal with the team he's being traded to.

The least ideal is keeping him for a lousy playoff run and lose him for zilch except for some silly sentiments that'll sound like the stuff a wife tells a husband after she's cuckolded him.
