I've never understood that reasoning.

There are 30 (soon to be 31) other teams in the league. What do you care what ANY of them do if you're in the business of improving YOUR team?

Doesn’t matter if it’s the St. Louis (frank)ing Blues you’re trading with...if you feel it makes your team better, grow a pair and make the damn trade.

Trading him for picks improves somebody now and possibly you later. I doubt Stan wants to do that in the Western conference.

I get it, think of Gus as Jose Quintana and the picks as Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease 😆

Maxime will turn 27 next year. His contract will be up end of April 2200. H e had an of year on KHK champion team CSKA Red Stars. He is a real good on the defensive end , good speed, physical / tall . Only problem ... Does not always show up for a game La Bickel.

Then Stan is a bad GM who cares more about optics than about building a winner.

I doubt that he does.

Versteeg just had his third baby and Shaw will have his second in January. Happy for these guys, but it’s kind of funny to picture them as Dads.

It be tough to trade Gus anywhere if the HAWKS are in the hunt ,if the HAWKS were to make a big run or even a little one I would be OK losing Gus for nothing if it had to be that way . Or maybe a late pick for his rights . Replacements are on the way .

Not quite, but he will 27 before can cross over the pond to play with the big boys.

Able to make the NHL grade after burrowing in cold Russia. Hiatus allowed him to develop in his mother land. A streaky scorer who will score
Uncertain how well he skates. May not be a comparison to the departed AA

That last part about showing up for games.....
Why i did not breach anything about that was my uncertain if it was accurate. Thanks for the report. He sounds like a player whom could be bouncing in and out of the doghouse. Which does not endear him well with a new coach you think!

Ha HA ! I will correct myself 2020. Actually most of KHL contracts are usually 1 or 2 years. If I was a betting man I would be hesitant to sign Maxim next year unless he has a 25 goals this year in the KHL and comes to play every game.

A quality 3-4 starter, who pitches 175+ innings year after year, career era 3.63, for possible major league players?

Cole Caufield is better than the lot of them....

- DarthKane

Where does Caufield rate on Montreal's list of prospects? In the NHL top 50?

"Caufield better than a lot of [Blackhawks prospects on that list]."

Well Caufueld was drafted what - 10th overall. And how many on that list were drafted top ten? A couple. Caufueld better learn self preservation to ensure a long career. The Canadiens do have at least two.center prospects close to NHL duty. Perhaps they will be his future helpers

Excerpts from a June article in the Athletic about Kubalik. Quotes are from former coaches. Good read about having a strong work ethic, committing to improving as a well rounded player, and being a likable teammate.

“He did not shy away from the physical part of the game whatsoever. He initiated the physical part of the game.”

“Whether he was a healthy scratch or hardly played or he played a ton, he was always on the bike after the games, riding and sweating his butt off no matter what happened.”

“He’s humble. He keeps his feet on the ground...In my experience, it’s sometimes tougher to be a good teammate when you’re a goal scorer. Usually they’re selfish, but he’s a good team player as well.”

“He was there every night. He didn’t have an off game. The effort was there. He was working.”

“He’s willing to learn. He’s willing to commit. He had a big role in PK, not just power play. It means he can learn and the coach had great faith in his capability to play a role defensively as well.”

In the same Athletic article was projections on Kubalik's offense in the NHL. If the projections are accurate, 40-45 points is great for a middle 6 winger who is committed to defense and who will generally work his tail off for the team.

"The question is how much of his offense will translate to the NHL. Using an NHL equivalency calculator, Kubalik’s 57 points in 50 games in the National League (NLA), Switzerland’s top division, this past season would be equivalent to 40 points in the NHL."

"That’s about the number The Athletic prospects contributor Alexander Appleyard estimated for Kubalik too. Appleyard covers prospects internationally and projected Kubalik could be around 45 points as a second-line player next season."

1st for Montreal, overall I’m not sure.

I didn’t say Caufield was better than a lot of the Hawks prospects, I said he was better than THE lot of them, meaning all of them.

Caufield was drafted 15th overall (steal of the draft), the Hawks have 3 prospects drafted higher than that.

If Gaudreau, DeBrincat and Marchessault can not just survive but thrive in the NHL then so can Caufield.
