In the same Athletic article was projections on Kubalik's offense in the NHL. If the projections are accurate, 40-45 points is great for a middle 6 winger who is committed to defense and who will generally work his tail off for the team.

"The question is how much of his offense will translate to the NHL. Using an NHL equivalency calculator, Kubalik’s 57 points in 50 games in the National League (NLA), Switzerland’s top division, this past season would be equivalent to 40 points in the NHL."

"That’s about the number The Athletic prospects contributor Alexander Appleyard estimated for Kubalik too. Appleyard covers prospects internationally and projected Kubalik could be around 45 points as a second-line player next season."

40-45 points out of Kubalik would be a stellar season.

A quality 3-4 starter, who pitches 175+ innings year after year, career era 3.63, for possible major league players?

Sadly, Jimenez is already better than Schwarber.

1st for Montreal, overall I’m not sure.

I didn’t say Caufield was better than a lot of the Hawks prospects, I said he was better than THE lot of them, meaning all of them.

Caufield was drafted 15th overall (steal of the draft), the Hawks have 3 prospects drafted higher than that.

If Gaudreau, DeBrincat and Marchessault can not just survive but thrive in the NHL then so can Caufield.

You have made a big deal over your guy and i agree that he probably will be a big time scorer. I see the projection based on skill and desire. You mention how some smaller size players have done quite well. On that i do not disagree but just know that your guy has to be able to survive in a land of giants. There is no harm in prepping for a year at U Wisconsin. There is a good brand of hockey there.

I bet that he will wish he was still in the college scene when it comes to dating because the women are everywhere and it is cheaper when you both are students.

But i digress. I just add this as far as a comparison to the Blackhawks prospects: Dach and Boqvist made the top 20 of 50 NHL prospects, according to the draft analyst for The Sporting News. Which is not where i normally look at hockey; a co - worker just saw it.

You are certainly going to be vehemently upset btw when i tell you that your guy is listed at #31. I cannot understand that rating myself. Moreover the criteria the writer used just doesn't add up for this rating!

I feel like the Chicago guys have great potential but i say your guy could light it up right away wherever he is at. Caufield like I said needs to learn how to survive against big fast tough NHL foes. I really hoped he would land in Edm - that would be intetesting - but the Oilers went with exactly whom i guessed they would.

All this early love for Dach might be too much. I don't picture him as a big scorer. Just good in a number of ways + the kind of player all teams want.

I am just looking at a 2008 Blackhawks magazine and in bold print it names the stars of "The Next Generation of Players" you need to Know:

Kyle Beach

Ignore Markarov

Simon Danis-Pepin

Shawn Lalonde

Akin Aliu

Who drafted these guys?

- spanky

Wow. A grand total of 8 NHL games between all 5 of these guys. Lalonde with only 1 with the Hawks. Aliu 7 with the Flames.

The NHL draft is such a crapshoot.

Not just your comment, but God forbid anyone get a bit too excited over the third overall pick in the draft. True he hasn't done anything at the NHL level yet and there was no consensus #3 in that draft, BUT...

Like you said he projects to be good in a number of ways and the kind of player all teams want. If he earns a spot out of camp and puts up Kotkaniemi numbers or better that potentially bodes well for this season and beyond.

I came across this yesterday. NHL salaries from 1990. The amounts are kinda shocking but a wonderful list of some great and not so great players from 29 years ago.

I didn't bother to answer in the last blog because my time is about ranking the kids for the next drafts, and you know what we all could make a list in either category and it really is just a prediction, a printed discussion point to garner interest to read the piece.

I just know that my 2019 Draft Mock all year was more accurate than the Sporting News contributor lists on his Draft analyst site.
So no need to try and beat the unpredictable future of prospects before any have shown much expertise NHL wise except maybe Makar's brief indoctrination.

I do find it interesting that NBCSposrt Chicago was so quick to site the Boqvist Dach in the top group on their site.

Personally no one can decide that Kakko is better than Hughes, that both are better than Dach, that Vancouver's Hughes is a lesser light than Boqvist, and of course the Bowen Byram ranking is gonna always ruffle my feathers.

I gess I am never sure why you do a list that kinda gets trash canned really quickly once the kids on it stay and excel in the NHL, while other kids on it are going back to develop to show if they are "there" later.

as far as the hawks, I gotta think Dach is the real deal, and Boqvist will eventually play in the league, and the Mitchell gets his chance sooner, and Nylander will too, and the reason you don't see an MacKenzie Entwistle on this type list (a guy who will know his role when / if given the chance) is they are trying to highlight the offensive guys from lower leagues past and kinda make up a list that is meaningless until the ac tally show up in the NHL a do something....
you saw that post from the old program saying "future Blackhawks" all of who are still just names of guys who "could have" been future Blackhawks...so dismiss the list.

I will say I wish the Sporting News would pay me to do that kinda work, lol!
