He’s made his stance & won’t budge. He wants results before he changes imo.

That’s cool but true the team needed players to augment the kids & waiting isn’t serving them well imo

The cost will always be a hot debate to sway those off of their position. I constantly proclaim my optimism but it needs results to warrant my stance.

It's all good. I get Vintsy's and the others positions about getting results. My view is that the team has moved up almost 10 spots in three seasons all the while with a pretty mediocre roster. The signs are there that we'll move up again. Much better core now an finally filling needs. It's going in the right direction.

Congrats Benning on taking 9 years to rebuild

I knew you could do it. Never lost faith.

my cousin was a harsh alcoholic with rotten insides at 50 and I told him to try smoking pot and he is 71 now and healthy as a horse and he thanks me all the time for saving his life, he has no thirst for alcohol at all.

I hope Baertschi has a great year, breaks out. I don't want to see him get traded but reach his full potential.

That reason and probably no lame duck distractions for 50th year celebrations is why JB got extended a couple more years.

Maybe this year it will be the year of "I told you so" pies.

One way or another it is, much more of a split board this year.

And why should they? Burke pulled the Sedin thing off but not much else. Nonis left Gillis a worse mess than Gillis left Benning. Gillis may not have drafted well but he added those ingredients that got us to the cup final. That was all Gillis.
- LordHumungous

HE drafted/signed the entire core.

His job is safe, who extends someone only to fire them?
- A_SteamingLombardi

I"m curious to see if he managed to talk FA into 2 years or more. If so, I wish he'd bring that to the free agency and trade negotiations.

Lets face it, the club needs some stability moving into the 50th season and having a GM on the final year of his deal there doesn't look great lol

Why? Burke and Nonis never got credit for Gillis's success.

Carol, have you done a poll yet on the Canucks odds of making the playoffs or anything of the like?

Sorry if i've missed it.

Smoke a joint eat. Smoke a joint eat. It's going to be the death of me. I just went a year and a half without eating sweets and deserts etc... lost a bunch of weight but it only took a few short months to fall back into not being able to pass the bakery and ice cream freezers.

I don't get the munchies when I smoke concentrates... just really (frank)ing high.

It's all about his health. He's top 3 or 4 when healthy. Had all the signs of a break out season last year.

respectfully Vintsy I think you and many of the #teamwhiners are confused. Caught between a rock and a hard place of acknowledging team improvement at the expense of your Benning bashing. Again like most of #teamwhiner you are missing the point...we aren't building around the old core anymore. This is a new and exciting core which has massive potential. Filling needs to compliment our top picks is the goal now. Sure picking out of the top 10 is all good and fine and there are gems there...but the focus is shifting. Just be willing to see it man...
- LordHumungous

I just think trading away (high) draft picks is the wrong way to go about building. Build through the draft, replace players with younger ones, get extra draft picks. If you need to go outside the FA market for help, then use some combination of own/acquired picks to address, but having 1st/2nd is important to this model

I predicted 8 and he'd be gone by the end of last season.

The prospects are only beginning to near promotion. Still 1-3yrs before we see it.

I see Miller as an immediate need that happened to cost us. I will say next season or the TDL being a more critical time to do as you’ve suggested. The UFA market coming up has us losing contracts & who or if might be a good fit & key for the next step. Idk if all will be resigned but i expect not. It’s not in Jim’s DNA to wait on players if they are deemed to be cut baitable.

Nonis who wasnt good at anything and still drafted better than Gillis in just 3 or 4 seasons.

I was thinking the other day... how many of Gillis' draft picks are going to make the rafters or the ring of honor? How many players he traded for?

Horvat if he remains a Canuck into success. Thats it and it's not a lock what so ever at this point. All the 2011 crew that are going on the wall or players we are in a deadlock debating whether they deserve it or not are players brought in by all the previous GM's. Gillis' additions get a lot of credit but they were fill ins not core or anything. They will be just a side note and that's the story of his success.

There was a poll recently on Sportsnet 650. Last I saw it was in the 60's for making it.

MG might have been the right GM at the right time. No cup yes. His penchant for NTC city & low attention to be polite towards drafting was the price. His NTC’s were of decent value mostly but it dominoed into now.
