Always going to be a way to get around the rules. Players salaries are pretty out of hand right now.

Problem is one guy who signed a year before is going to get less than the next guy. No perfect solution but guys who sign 6 year terms and the cap goes up 10 million dollars. They don't get any of it. Maybe the cap should work off the percent per player and as the cap moves up or down the player will get either a slight raise or less money.

The problem is the elite players getting paid huge are squeezing out the next tier contracts. Those players are forced to take less than they may deserve. ELC’s are the key currency & drafting ever more important. It hurts trading imo.

Sorry, are you saying if you’re not picking in the top 10 having first round picks is a waste?

This is why you boot lickers are so dumb. You think us whiners want the team to lose so they get high draft picks, but that isn’t true at all. We want the draft picks that are given each year, and maybe a little something extra now and again, as a prospect makes the team making a vet expendable.

Are you wanting top 10 picks every year & willing to ride it out waiting or impatient?
Secondly has JB done fine enough drafting to your liking that it’s reasonably well to do this? Lastly how long riding it out til we are contenders if we didn’t trade picks & keep assets instead of gaining middlin picks?

I think part of problem with Miller trade and timing is the fact that through the retool/rebuild we were never able to get any picks/prospects out of perceived rental value (Hamhuis, Vanek, Tanev, Edler). This left us with basically only our picks. If we had another 2nd or something I think Miller would have been more digestible.

There's also picks traded for players when staying competitive while re-tooling on the fly.

Yep that too.

From outsider standpoint and why Benning gets (and deserves) a lot of grief is the fact that he gave tbay an out. I bet you could practically hear the collective face palms from other GMs ... Jim Jim Jimmy . One of the elite run teams looked to be in a corner and finally have to give up one of their good younger players and Jimbo extended a lifeline to a team that certainly doesn't need one. This year's playoffs aside, they are and will be a force for long time.

Petty envy aside & looking around the league...

Ignoring TB & FLA & VGK & there tax advantages. TB is a regular season juggernaut but if they were us the poopstorm here would be epic not winning a cup & swept in the 1st round. FLA has been a forever nobody & signs a 10m goalie poopstorm #2. VGK got an expansion deal no other team ever got.

Big market teams drawing power. NYR sign Panarin who i wanted but it wasn’t remotely realistic. The Leafs throw their wallet around & would be nowhere without a lotto win to this day.

It took the most recent cup winners many many years to get there & kudos to them & their fans.

The Jets & Preds are solid teams but nothing special without a cup.

SJ always looks good but the results wouldn’t cut it here.

Canes finally made noise & D was their main strength which is a work in progress here but getting much better.

Who does that leave? Buffalo Edmonton Arizona & any other team on the forever rebuild wasting talent away.

The old & aged teams like LA & the Ducks have many problems bigger than ours.

So where do we fit in or compare?

A young bubble team developing young core while waiting on turn out of some draft prospects to round out. Plus continue drafting to upgrade or trade for need.

Then you better stop using Gillis as an excuse for Benning.

Miller would’ve been in demand i am sure of & it was not an out but is a steep price. Miller doesn’t get much luv for a proven player vs an unknown pick. Too much credit is given to that without proof. TB has no impact on what the Canucks are doing or need to do. A regular season force is all they have shown nothing more. We were once there. Having the tax advantage is a major boost.

Lets wait & see how this season plays out.

so he's been in charge for 5 drafts
got 1 playoff spot in that time
been the worst team in the league over the course of 3 years
CHL scouting is F'n horrendous
International scouting is better

not sure that warrants an extension

To clarify for the interlopers or the too lazy to back read or selective memory loss.

I said many times this is now JB’s team & it’s all on him. I also said the same for Green & his staff. An extension is more for optics & no guarantee JB’s job is safe.
