Your point? We’re paying niskanen like what7-8 mil with the retained salary
- 2Real

for one year and then it goes away, it has no long term bearing on the Flyers's cap situation.

and niskanen is signed for what? this year and next? this is not a tragedy.

id really like to debate something that hasn't been beaten to death already. anyone up for a rousing debate of what your ideal PP unit 1 and PP unit 2 would be? I would like to see it like this:

Umbrella - PP Unit 1

- Giroux near half wall (obv)
- Ghost at the top
- Coots in slot/net front
- Jake far wall
- JVR net front

I always liked the double screen Hartsy and Simmer would create from a shot point, but I think the combined skill of coots and JVR we can say safely outweigh Hartsy and Simmer.

2 dmen - PP Unit 2

- Sanheim left point
- Myers right point - (I say this as I would love by the end of the year to have his shot on the 2nd unit, Understandably so until then, I would have Provy on the left point and Sanheim on the right point).
- TK as a floater behind the net and down low
- 2 of the 3 of Lindblom, Hayes, and NoPa in the slot and net front.

I honestly thought the Hayes story, when I first read it yesterday, was fake news. Kind of an April fools joke if you will.

Oh well.

I wish Jake would shoot more on the PP? This was brought up on another thread, that his main concern is passing, instead of shooting. That made him a bit predictable on the PP, plus he tried to make too many impossible/Hope passes on the PP. If the pass isn't there, then put it on net and let our guys in front fight for a deflection or greasy goal. Too many of Jake's crazy passes ended up as break aways for the other team.

Bill, love the insight.

I get the flyers have to prove it that is fair What I don’t get, when you the nhl network or others breakdown teams they really think Philly is a disaster, they think the Rags and Devils are better

Any thought on why? Is it just their inconsistency ???

Whatever they do, I think they need to present more options. The PK has been cheating on Ghost, preventing or blocking his shots..... and they need to find a way to make them more honest. If that means Jake needs to shoot more or at least be a threat to shoot.

But whatever it is, they need to get Ghost more open looks for one timers.

I wouldn't say we can safely say that. JVR is really good at deflecting pucks but Simmonds for a significant period of time was the best net front PP forward in the entire NHL. Hartnell was also good at one timing and scoring PP goals from the slot. Better than Couturier is at it.

As far as the future, don't know if they're going to change the alignment or not.

I prefer a right/left combo down low, at least on the top unit, so:

PP1
JVR
Patrick
Giroux
Ghost
Jake

PP2
Coots
Lindblom
Hayes
Sanheim
Myers

yeah, maybe not safely, but I still think I would rather JVR and Coots than Simmer and Hartnell. speaking of them though, i do miss Simmer and Hartsy.

I think it would behoove Therrien to put back the outlines of what was so successful in the mid 2010's with the umbrella and G on the half wall. whatever other tinkering he wants to do with personnel and the 2nd unit, fine. But G was top 3 in PP points for 5 years straight or something. I work by the old adage, if aint broke, dont fix it.

Regardless of whether or not the reports are true of Kevin Hayes comments or who reported them, Seravelli or anyone else, the report is just saying what half the fan base is already thinking. It’s a potential bad deal down the road and we thought we just became free of such a deal, just to jump into another. The player in question who supposedly said this could have been Jimmy Hayes for all we know, who is a former Boston player. Regardless of who said what, there were rumors that Hayes needed convincing from day one. We have players like Sean Couturier, Shayne Gostisbehere and Travis Sanheim or even Carter Hart Who could get forced out because of a deal such as Kevin Hayes, down the road.

Can we please stop talking like there is no down side to Kevin Hayes as a player and the money we just threw at him? Things can go either way and I think we all know it.

And how does Hayes force out a player like Coots, or Sanheim? Please explain.

JVR has better hands and is a bigger body , I prefer that. Simmer was the man, I hope he bounces back. Flyers PP became predictable, I think that hurt Simmer, it wasn’t all in him. With the JVR and his hands he can still pot some goals even if the D and the goalie has him covered or know the puck is coming.

In the prime of Simmonds career, he was hands down better than JvR in front of the net. JvR has more raw skill, Simmonds is a better net presence.

In fact it was ridiculous that JvR was in front of the net and Simmonds in Schenn/Hartnell’s old spot.

Hextall correctly did not push his chips into the middle yet. It wasn't time then and it surely isn't time now.

Fletcher's hand is forced by micromanager and resource allocator Dave Scott. We'll see how it plays out, but we've all seen this movie before.
