There were a handful of articles around the web showing that Willie had basically turned back into a 60 pt guy after that poopty 16 game beginning. From mid Jan to end of year he was about 55 pts per season (pace).

From a points perspective he's already back ...and can only get better.

I have tried thinking about it that way, But that 16 games is more important than the other 220 games...sorry I dont make the rules, thats just how it is

Glendening will be a Leaf at the deadline. Hollandaises loyalty can't save him now! Babschlong gets his 18 minute forward.
- AdamFrench

Before Hyman there was Glenny. Babs would be in his glory having both of his sons on the same team. Hyman-Matthews-Glenny 😂

I'd suggest it's pretty obvious.

Nobody's overstating Willie's track record by suggesting that he's a 60 pt kid with lots to prove and lots of room to grow.

- The Law

Judging by his beard and haircut these days, he'll be much more focused on hockey this year, because he won't be getting laid nearly as much.

I like to think of it as he played 82 games.

7 goals in 82 games? trade the bum for a 7th.

Not angry, just think we played great even when he wasn’t part of the team. He’s just a winger, now if we lost AM or JT that would be irreplaceable, Nylander’s not that.
- Garnie

The Leafs lost AM for a bit of time both seasons.

I remember two seasons ago they went on a great run without Matthews or JT.....Nylander was at center.

If you are going to say the Leafs are fine without Nylander because they won games in a small sample size then you have to do the same with Matthews.

Does this mean the Leafs are fine without Matthews or Nylander? no they are both elite players and we will need both to win a cup.

Maybe.

Or maybe blow it up and create a new 5 year plan because the window has shut.

Why don't we just invent a province that doesn't exist and then sell him that. He wouldn't know the difference.

You can't completely.

But when you look at how productive he was the first two seasons? and after the first 20 games?

Yeah I think if someone wants to make the assumption the contract dispute played a huge role in those first 20 games it is a safe assumption.

- Santo_44

I'm aware I'm "picking on wording here".. but - it must be said, it wasn't the contract impasse that caused him to show up out of shape or at very best "not ready to play"...

it was the player, who has the same responsibility from a professional perspective to show up at camp more or less ready to go - of course not in "game shape"... but at least in shape.

I don't hate the contract, I hate how it went the 11th hour and then really how much did Dubas/Leafs "get" in the contract negotiation/delay? Not much really.

so net net... player shows up in poor shape without any real reason for it... and then sucks for what 15-20 games...

that's on the player... and NO... you can't ignore this - this is the context.

so it should be VERY reasonable to assume he gets immediately back to 60-70pts pace... as this year their is no distraction, both he and Matthews have contracts they should be good to go from Day 1.

with who's money?

this is a unique guy - truly unique - please name me another person who went out of business/bankrupt running a casino in a major tourist area?

yuk... I wouldn't wish that on the Quebecers.

Drumpf had a major hotel and residence complex in Panama City, great location, the locals are thrilled that he was pushed out.

The leafs could compete without ever seeing Willie again, we are deep on the wings. Sure it’s nice having him but he is not near as important as JT or AM.

That’s my hot take 🤷🏻‍♂️, I know you won’t agree, which is fine. No need to go through pages of stats to back up your stance. I believe you to have an opinion too 👍

With China's money
- TheMussel

I believe they tried that in Vancouver without Drumpf... you can determine for yourself how healthy the real estate market is there for yourself.

and Drumpf doesn't have any Chinese money... apparently he's giving it all to the farmers in subsidies and into a savings bank to finance a wall between the US and Canada...

but he does want Canadian companies to sell drugs/medicine to the US at cut rate prices... which part of that is the "free trade" portion - the part where the US gets all the benefit or the part where Canada gives away potential profit?
