Let’s trade a 5th round pick for that BUST Hughes.

I heard he has 0 games played in the NHL. Bust.

I can’t believe NJ gave up a 2nd and a 3rd and paid that BUST player 4 million who’s 27 and has played 0 games in the NHL.

What a bust.

Apparently Pool Party's Dad had Tom Cochrane write a song for his BIG Boy when he was a young lad...

Imagine Oates added into that roster. I hated you guys in the early 90’s enough because of the matchup, Y was as good as Dougie in both ends which was disconcerting as Gilmour would dominate on most nights.

If they had kept Oates, they would have targeted Makarov instead of Larionov, and Makarov with Oates feeding him would have had 80+ goals as a 43 year old rookie.

Pretty much, Robertson and SDA will be in there eventually. With Bracco, Sandin and Liljegren being the top 3.

Imagine if the Oilers drafted Rielly instead of Yakupov? Or Montreal drafted him instead of Galchenyuk? That's crazy, Rielly is the best player from his draft year. I like that.

That's the thing, he doesn't suck. He's a highly skilled player with size and skating ability. He definitely still has potential.

Bracco brings nothing to the Leafs that they don't already have. And he's already significantly behind as it is.

- JohnFergusonJr

So what if he "has potential". He's shown nothing good so far. Nothing that Bracco can't surpass. Bracco also has potential.

You can maybe argue that we have enough players like Bracco already, but that doesn't mean he can't easily become a better, more valuable player than Puljujarvi, who has done nothing to prove he's more than a 4th liner.

He has more NHL potential than Bracco. There's a reason why he's played parts of 3 seasons in the NHL and Bracco has 0 NHL games, despite being a year older.

Or maybe he's played more because Edmonton is a tire fire and has been for years and doesn't know how to properly cultivate their prospects.

Or because he was drafted high and expected to be good, and then just wasn't.

Or because one player has a great combination of a frame and skill set to play in the NHL at 18-20 and the other doesn't.

This isn't to say that Bracco doesn't have any potential at all, it's just that what he brings, the Leafs already have a lot of. What Bracco can do is already done at a higher level by Johnsson, Kapanen, Nylander, Marner. What Puljujarvi brings, the Leafs don't have a lot of which is size combined with skating and skill. And because of that combination, would make for a better complimentary player.

As I said in a previous post, size and skill would be great, but just size isn't good enough.

Puljujarvi has the size, but hasn't shown he has the skill. Or if you read that article posted above (by zezel), maybe he's just too stubborn to listen to anyone enough to improve. If you want a larger player, that's one thing. But they have to actually be good.

That's not true, he definitely has the skill. The numbers just haven't been there yet and that's not entirely his fault. He's played with a lot of poopty players in bottom six roles plus an injury last season that the Oilers mismanaged.

A change of scenery can do wonders for a player, especially if they're playing with the right linemates. Just ask Dylan Strome.
