I just don't believe this at all.
I think its clear.
I also think its insane that we can't involve seasons 1 and 2 when comparing these two. Matthews was insanely better in those seasons. - Santo_44
Thats ok.
This isnt about what you believe....or I believe.
Its about the stats.
My earlier post was an average of their first 3 years in the NHL.....it included those years.
The years when AM had willie on his wing.....and marner was moved around
Anywho, its easy to see what his agent will be arguing. Marner just has to realize if he wants to win with the leafs....he'll need to take a team friendly deal.
If not and he wants to hold out.....then trade him. |

Not real far off, I wouldnt pay him Matthews money but I can see why they’re arguing, why wouldn’t they. Also I wouldn’t have payed Matthews that money over 5 years either 🤷🏻♂️

Yes. He wants what Matthews got. Maybe settles for a smidgen less, but at least 11. - aminnes
I agree that is what he will ask for, they will deal him, Baptiste will step in and by game 40 itll be...mitch who?? |

He lead his team for 2 years straight in scoring within 3 years of being drafted. - Fakepartofme
So, we are just ignoring that Matthews missed 20 games due to injury and finished with 63 points.
Whereas, Marner finished with 69 points but played in all 82 games? |

We’ll be fine, even if Marner misses a month. We should be able to coast into the playoffs with all our awesomeness, unless our d play like school kids in our own zone.
We’ll find out soon enough. - Garnie
I think it ill be a struggle to make the playoffs for the Leafs this season with Marner all year. If he pulls a Nylander, things could get very ugly. |

Oh ok, I thought you were saying Matthews only plays like on half the ice.
Matthews is better defensively than Marner is though. - PatC80
Nope, wasnt suggesting that at all.
Just that IMO marner plays well defensively and does play a style similar to a top center at times. |

Both Matthew's and Marner are awesome and both are Leafs. Good times.
Connor Brown. Toronto area guy traded to the Sens....I feel for him... |

I like Brown. I was sad they had to 'sweeten' the deal to get Cody (frank)ing Ceci. |

Don't laugh, I brought up how bad OEL is, with his career -89. It proves he's an even worse defenseman than Ceci |

Leafs should have given Matthew's the C and used that as some sort of leverage over Marner. |

But having Spezza is kinda cool. An ex Sen, Toronto area guy. My expectations are super low but still love the signing. |

nope.
Jesus.
That's why they are career averages that I posted.
AM played with willie for two years while marner was centered by Bozak and spent time on the 4th line.
But again, Im not saying marner is the same as AM. Just saying his agent has the stats to argue he isnt that far back from AM outside of burying the puck. |
