There is some subjectivity to scouting. Scouts that have a good record with players would be seen as having valuable opinions. If it's all stats scouts wouldn't be necessary.
- aminnes

Scouts do not play into negotiations.

Don’t be silly.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I never once said he was the best player in the game.

And trophies? Really?

Use facts please. He’s at the top on G/60 and ESG/60 from the last three years at age 19/20/21. He’s only going up at 22...and he’s already at the top.

The facts don’t lie here.

You can use 2010 Ovi all you want. Matthews was probably having learning his timestables still at that time.

Use actual facts please.

What part of my post WASNT a fact...he hasn't won or been voted to any of the trophies I listed OR won a playoff series...

those sound like fact to me

If AM34 wasn't so damn injury prone maybe.

"The best ability is "availability"

The one poster here says the past doesn't matter, only recent seasons. Following that theory. AM34 recently misses 20 games a year...that 25% of the season...Id rather have a more dependable player.

- RippedFuel

You're right, Mario Lemieux is a perfect example.. If only Lemieux was as available as Eichel is

He’s been in the league for 3 years.

And he’s been more productive in the goal scoring category than Ovi.

As a teenager.

That rocket Richard trophy winner? Yeah Matthews has been more productive than him since entering the league. Don’t believe me? Go check.

Ovi’s season in 2012 is completely irrelevant to what he is today as a goal scorer.

We are evaluating the best goal scorer in the game for this season. He has bested him in productivity the last 3 years I’ll put money on it he will do it again.

And I will bet you that if you would like.

Im also glad he was committed to his team. Some teams have to deal with guys sitting out, holding out until they get over paid. Jack had no problem signing a long term, team friendly deal.

Id hate to have had to deal with a hold out

why can't he just overpay poopty players too too early, than wait for them to take their trade demands public?

O’rielly Hated it there too.

Echiel is pissed every year about how bad they are.

well in riptard's defense, it is a lot easier to prove a point when you ignore facts that are inconsistent with your argument.

Interesting stat here. Last season Matthews scored 25 even strength goals. Marner scored 22 even strength goals. Matthews gets 58% OZ starts to Marner's 53%. Matthews 22 PP points, Marner 23 PP points. I'm not sure Mitch is only a PP guy any more than Matthews is.

He is 2 million off for me.

Marner will never reach Matthews scoring touch.

No one is even close right now. Not mcdavid, not Ovi. Marner can put up points.

He needs to start producing a (frank) ton more even strength and goal scoring to be close to Matthews.

Tim Murray and Dan Bylsma have some work to do in turning around the team culture for sure.

Guys like Ristolainen, Berglund and O'Reilly, they only lost their passion for hockey because that was management's plan to save Cap space.

The idea is to 'force' players to forgot how to hockey and to hate themselves for being in Buffalo so that management can get rid of them for next to nothing.

I don't care if it's Murray or Botterill or Lindy Ruff, the plan remains the same..

Encourage players to hate themselves and the city of Buffalo.. It saves so much cap space

They are extremely far off.

All he has is p/60.

That’s is. He scores on the PP, bravo.

There is plenty plenty more to this. And Matthews kills his stats in the other areas.

- Santo_44

One is a center / one is a winger... Matthews did not have his scoring winger show up at all last year..

WTF, do people understand the game at all.

Hahahahaha

You are simplifying every stat

We aren’t going to agree here. I go by productivity...and if you want to dive into the stats I feel paint the true picture then I will.

But obviously by what you just posted you don’t so it’s best we leave it alone.
