Just curious, how do you know he knew nothing about soccer? No prior managerial experience, sure. But someone who knows nothing about the game is probably not going to interview for, and get, a job for basically a farm team on another continent.

Good to see you recognize this.

I like Krueger partly because he succeeded in a sport he knew nothing about. He took his leadership and team building skills, along with his general smarts and built something out of nothing, by surrounding himself with the right people.

I like the Krueger hire and look forward to his impact on the team, but it feels moreso like he is a GM-in-waiting to me.

Let's hope that Smith's 1st go around with the team was completely limited by Phil's insistence on running his D, and that Smith's D is far easier to learn and execute effectively.

I stated it the way that I did because while you could apply it to literally any leadership position, coach could be in there as well. Of course, he doesn't have a ton of people that he can hire directly, but it's moreso the parts about physically leading the men in that locker room. If he can lead a team of guys that know a ton about soccer, he can certainly lead a team of guys that know a ton about hockey.

He was able to find the right people for the right roles. Since he's done that in the past, there's no reason he can't do it again, especially in a sport he absolutely understands more.

I look forward, and expect, for this team to feel different. Even outside of the on-ice results.

I agree with your take, I do...especially about leading 23 boys / men.
I am expecting good things from him and his team in that leadership category.
I am trusting he has hired effective Stratigists, Tacticians, Teachers and Implementors

I am hopeful that a core group who has failed 2 coaches will find a way to follow this staff.
