I understand, but at times I think Risto is a huge risk to have on the ice, so removing that could help our goals against, so trading him and removing his salary could be worth it.

Maybe we somehow trade our 2nd rounder and ask for their 1st in the deal. Doubt they do that with the needs they have right now, though.

I think we would also have to take back salary to make this work, so maybe a cap dump? Not sure who that would be at this point (hopefully his deal would be up after this year, if we do).

Risto has use. If the team acquiring him sees that use, that makes him more valuable than how the Sabres currently uses him.

I didn't know we were dealing in logic. We both have evidence that affirms both sides of the argument. And the end result is a simple 1 or the other. That's the only logic at play.

I understand your statement, but getting three entry level deals for players that could replace our middle 6 would be nice. Allows us to take a trade in which we get the better player with higher salary for less (after this season).

With this deal, then maybe we can sign Gardiner and trade Scandella too and we might be off and running. I know we need another top 6 player (center), but they are hard to find and I think if someone offered a top 6 center for Risto, we would have accepted by this point in the offseason.

Sure, I agree. I want a way better return too, just don't see it (since it has not happened yet). We have a log jam at D right now and we do have one at forwards too (minus just giving up on a few bottom 6 guys, which I doubt Botts does). So trading for a couple prospects that can be sent to AHL or have yet to sign their contact, allows up more flexability.

I want to win this year, challenge for playoffs and more, but I dont see a top 6 player falling from the sky for Risto (+ if needed), but I would prefer that as well.

a) Sabres want to win today
b) Sabres have too many RD and not enough quality top 6.
c) Sabres can dump more F trash if they bump down the depth chart.
d) See a.

Is what you're proposing, ie pix and prospies a possibility? Of course it is. It just doesn't help the team today. And based on all of the moves made this offseason, this team is full bore about helping the 19-20 Sabres.

I think we could and should get more than this. To me, this move doesn't move the sticks. JP is likely a bust, though a change of scenery might do him well, I wouldn't take that chance in exchange for Risto. The return HAS to be a legitimate 2C, maybe very good 3C until Mitts or Cozens get established, or top 6 RW. If that is not the return then Joker starts in Roch and Risto starts in Buf.
