Botterill probably should have thought about that before acquiring his new d men and effectively announcing "for sale: like new d man who wants out. No tire kickers. I know what I have"
- jcragcrumple

Or maybe by year 5 of bad results most teams know he isn’t that good.

It definitely doesn’t help the win column

Is Colin Miller better than Risto?

Sure, but it doesn't help Botterill negotiate when everyone knows he's trying to get rid of him because has added an entire right side's worth of d men. It's obvious that Botterill doesn't see him here long term. The rest of the league sees that too.

Botterill probably waited too long. That's on him

No idea tbh.

I think Montour and Risto are redundant. They're both 2nd pair RHD, PP guys. As soon as we got Montour, I knew risto was gone.

I liked the guy. Enjoyed watching him play, but he's done here

He waited too long because it should have been done two years ago.

But again he was left with Victor Antipin and Brendan Guhle as D prospects when he took over

You clearly haven't played any meaningful hockey in your lifetime.

In retrospect that really didn't matter. We finished worst and 5th worst. If we signed Franson for 2 years and traded Risto we'd be in the same place

11 teams showed interest in a recently bought out Shattenkirk. I’m sure Risto has value. I also think he will do extremely well wherever he ends up so we better get a good return back.
- Pegullaville

For a low salary with one year term, sure. Is risto making 1.75 mil for just one more season? Keep in mind the teams going after shartkirk had to give up nothing to get him.

Again, Vancouver just paid Myers $7m a year

There is a healthy market for Risto. Tough RHD, PP guys never go out of style

To be fair he got 6 mil, and is better than Risto

If there's a trade to be made to help out the top 6, then make it.

If not, #55 better be in camp, ready to go.

Couldn't we say the same thing about eichel?
Which is flawed

Oops, you're right.

But he's signed until he's 34 with a modified ntc and he hasn't hit 40 points in 10 years

Not if you're selling low on him and issues about him and his mouthing running is made public.

No, because we don't have a replacement for Eichel. We have options to replace risto.

Keep him. He gets traded and he will ass-rape this team for a decade.

There are like 3 perfect players in the NHL

31 teams are trying to assemble a group of 23 imperfect players. He would have a role on probably 25 teams.

I'm sure GMs are saying the same thing you're saying to Botterill, but one of them is going to get an imperfect Risto to play a perfect role on their team

I want to respond, but I'll need about 3 weeks to decipher the point trying to be made. I'll get back to you.

The point is that any player being traded has issues, or else they wouldn't be traded. It doesn't mean the player isn't worth trading for
