I agree with The Caps edge on the forwards ( DUH ) and also The Islanders haveing an edge on the d side of the puck but when it comes to Goaltending I'm going to give the edge to the Caps with a SC winning Goalie between the pipes.

Yeah, think Ben was a tad off there. You ask anyone if they have a team and Greiss and Holtby are the only 2 goalies to choose from I'm thinking 10 out 10 times Holtby gets picked 1st.

No doubt the Capitals have a better goalie in Holtby. My point was moreso that Holtby hasn't been himself in the regular season for two seasons now. I'd also be taking Holtby 10/10 times on the basis that his upside is far higher, it's just that recently Holtby hasn't been that same top-five goalie that he was for many years and doesn't give the Capitals the same edge that he did previously (except in the playoffs).

That's fair, Holtby at his best is exceptional. If he regains form, he's one of the league's best.

I don't think that was Ben's point, however. He was saying the Holtby-Copley combo was roughly equal to the Varlamov-Greiss combo. (Not saying I necessarily agree with him by the way)

Essentially meant to say that going into the season, I don't see the Capitals necessarily having an edge based on Holtby's performance through the last two regular seasons.

Given the chance between Holtby/Copley and Varlamov/Greiss, I'm still taking the duo with Holtby every time, based on the fact that at his best, he's outstanding. But the last two years he hasn't been outstanding in the regular season and if that continues on for a third regular season, he doesn't give Washington a major advantage in goal.
