IF the cap goes up dramatically in a couple of years after the new TV contract Seabs' cap hit over the last remaining few years of his contract will be less relevant.

Hmmm...well that's disappointing. I've grown accustomed to the constant consternation generated by that stinker of a deal. Not sure what I'll do without it.

All years are guaranteed in the NHL.

Perhaps the terminology i meant to imply is club option not guaranteed

Club option to continue terms of contract years three
through six but with limited no movement clause. Both parties should be happy with terms if he continues to perform well

There is no club option either.

Edit Yes could add a NTC along the way but $$$ are guaranteed for the length of the contract.

We'll be female doging about Strome's, Cat's or some body else's extension by then.

Neither of us are in his head. Based on the skeletons in his closet, he may be happy for a long term contract at 6 or 6.5M.
- boilermaker100

Yeah and I think the Blackhawks bought some goodwill with the way they handled the negotiations with him, at least that’s what I got from his comments.

A lot depends on how the season plays out, if it’s going well I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs an extension mid-season.

Ben Bishop 6x$4.9 signed 2017
Devan Dubnyk 6X$4.33 signed 2015

If Lehner has another good year, I would use these for comparison, adjusted for how much the cap has gone up since they signed.

The market will set his price, he's a UFA, not RFA.

Blackhawks legend Marko Dano has signed with the Blue Jackets. Stan isn’t the only GM that likes to bring players back.

That’s why it’d be wise to try to get him signed during the season before he goes to the market.

Bears down 6-0. Hopefully they are hiding their offensive prowess til the regular season.

P.S. Not sold on Trubinski Me thinks that the Bears should have selected Mahomes instead.

Hawks will get him back in a package when they trade Saad to CBJ within the next year.

Based on my comments, I'll be shocked if he signs for $6 x anything...

Seabrooks contract in no way impedes this teams shot at a Cup run or two the next three years.

This is kind of a dumb argument at this point.

With an improved pk and goaltending they will be in the playoffs even if they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league again.

With the amount of guys they have that can score, and with very good goaltending they can win a round or two this year.

They're really not in a bad spot considering how much parity there is in the league. Talent is very diluted even a marginal increase in the hawks roster quality is going to look like a barn burning success.

Seabrook's contract isn't the issue, his level of play is. It will be interesting to see how well Coliton is able to shelter him and keep his minutes down without wearing down the other defensemen. What's a reasonable expectation, 8 minutes a night?

Can't believe Stan got rid of a guy who could do that

(channeling my inner Darth)

That's akin to that D lineman Jerry Angelo drafted from that small CA college who could jump out of a pool, but not tackle anyone..............

Management has made comments about expecting improvement out of Seabs because of his D partners this year.

We'll see. He's not who he used to be, but I'm going to wait to see him with a responsible partner.

I'll say it again, if Seabs is the biggest problem the Hawks have this year, it'll be a much better year.

If anyone is interested, here's a link to the schedule for next months Prospect tournament in Traverse City.

Anyone seen a Hawks roster for this tourney? Also, I would appreciate if anyone knows a streaming site for the games.

- boilermaker100

Thanks Boiler...I, too, would love to see the roster for that tourney. Hawks should be stocked with top prospects....can't wait to see some of them!
