I believe it becomes a modified NMC after this year, no? - Rinosaur
After next year, but since the expansion draft isn't until 2021, you are correct that he can be exposed (at least from what I understand after I was worried that Tanev and his M-NTC would have to be protected). |

Maybe, but the NTC/NMC for purposes of expansion are based on the terms of the season just played
The new clauses wouldn't take effect until the new league year, July 1.... The Expansion draft is before that date

Really? I thought it looked forward to the upcoming season. |

Protect Tanev? Are you nuts? It would be like a 'get out of jail free' card for that terrible contract. What if Tanev is just a ~25 point player who runs around and hits people? There's a very real possibility that's who he is. I was actually worried that his M-NTC (also absurd) would prohibit the Pens from exposing him.
I would protect every other forward before protecting Tanev and I think it is an easy case to make. - Hockey66
They didn't sign Tanev, just so they could lose him a year later
Got me thinking though, Maybe that's why they gave the deal so much term, to shy away Seattle - They could expose Tanev with little chance of actually losing him
Expansion teams love guys in the last years of their deal or young guys with years of control - I'm not sure they'd be interested in a guy like Hornqvist regardless |

Well, it would be two years later. But by that time, we will be in the twilight of "the window," so I don't see where a bit player is all that important.
If your theory is correct, I guess JR has more of a grit boner for Tanev than I thought.
I agree with your last part, except that Horny would have just two years left and I could see where he would be a veteran leader and fan favorite, provided he isn't sidelined by concussions by then. |

Same could have been argued about Johnson and here we are with all the best writers saying Rutherford has explored trades. |

Yeah, I think if he was worried about the expansion draft, he could have just given Tanev a full NTC until after the draft.
I've always assumed that more years = lower AAV (except for RFAs who aren't on their last year and when extending into FA years). If this is the case, then JR is saying that he thinks JJ and Tanev are worth $4-$4.5 mil on a shorter term 1-2 year deal, which is bonkers.
The fact that JR is supposedly shopping JJ now is almost more damning in light of the contract he just gave to Tanev. |

Has this been recently reported again or are you referring to those reports earlier in the summer linking him to LA, ANA and MTL? |

$10MM to sign Point, Erne, and another forward or bring up a guy like Raddysh. Seems pretty optimistic, guy - WSCTeton17
Point's AAV falls closer to Stamkos' 8.5m than it does 10m. |

I would agree. So you’re getting Erne for league minimum or close to it? |

Very odd day for me personally. I got good news almost immediately followed by bad news. The good news is that Phil got referred over to me. The same referral source was then the bearer of bad news letting us know one of our other clients had just passed away. Then I found out my friends Dad who I used to drink beer just passed away at 76. Unfortunate news about two real solid guys |

Canadian from Alberta in his mid 40’s. Has a wife and two kids. I was supposed to coach his son for varsity hockey this upcoming season but my concussion symptoms aren’t gone yet. He thinks the cause of death was suicide on Canada Day. Very sad news |

So sad. Also, a cautionary tale if it was concussion-related. I hope you have mental health plans should it come to that. Take care. |

I’m not sure about him and I don’t plan on asking. I hadn’t thought about it until just now but a year ago today was when I got hit playing men’s league and I still have symptoms.
Enjoy it while you can 👍🏻 |

Yes, indeed. A lot of young people take for granted a healthy body and/or healthy brain/mind. I've told a few people in their 30s that age ~40 is going to hit you like a ton of bricks and they kind of shrug it off, but all have come back to me and said I was right.
Of course, concussions are a whole other realm unto their own and are quite scary. You know, I used to think OJ was just a nutjob, but years later I realized, that dude has probably had multiple concussions which have scrambled his brain. And I don't even know if they diagnosed concussions as such back then. |

I feel more in danger at men’s league than I ever did in a serious game. Big reason why I mostly stick to the pond and the backyard rink my buddy puts up. |

Interested in how he sounds next to those goofballs since he’s such a reserved and stoic guy. |
