Buyout Period
The buyout period begins the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on June 30 at 5 pm EST.
Buyouts Outside of the Regular Period
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.
Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award
Requirements:
A buyout can only be performed on a player who was on the clubs reserve list at 3:00pm on the most recent trade deadline
The player must have a cap hit of at least $3,455,438 for the 2019 offseason
There is an exception to this buyout period (CBA Reference: Section 11.18; 12.3) if the arbitation was Club-elected (as opposed to player-elected) and the player did not receive a qualifying offer. In this case, a minimum of two arbitration cases are necessary to trigger the buy-out period outside the regular window.
The number of arbitration filings required to open the buy-out window outside the regular period are as follows: |

There are only 2 buyout periods. First one starts a certain time after the cup final is over. 2nd one only opens if you have an arb case. - burn That was what it was! Thanks for sharing that Burn. I knew there was something to it!

Did the Leafs ever have a corner on the GTA/Ontario players back in the day like the Habs did in Quebec? Could you imagine if that were still the case. Sean MacIndoe did a all Ontario team and it was so good (obviously) |

They probably did and (frank)ed it up otherwise Bobby Orr would have been a different story. |

The best is Phaneuf.
So many people have said Phaneuf.
And proceed to attempt to justify it... |

(frank) no, enough people complain enough about ltir and want it changed because of the leafs.
It was funny seeing people complain about how the leafs always use the cba and go beyond bending the rules and then they have to change the rules so they can't take advantage anymore.
Yeah remember when the leafs were handing out all those illegal contracts before they changed the rules on them!! |

From my understanding he definitely had a choice and some people from Boston convinced him to go there. Very watered down and very well could be inaccurate. I was just curious if something like that ever existed with Ontario and of not, why then was it just ok for the Habs to do it? I’m not great when it comes to NHL history.
Also, if anyone knows the date range of when that was in place for the Habs, I’d love to know. |

Not the case at all - not even close. Bruins were following Orr at age 12 and had him signed to a contract by age 14. When he was twelve Bruins spent money to update an arena to gain favour with Orr and his family. At that time - the early sixties, Leafs were in the process of winning three straight cups. |

Leafs thought he was too young and too small, they passed on him, Bruins didn't.
Like I said, they had a chance and they (frank)ed it up.
“The Leafs said I was too young, too small,” he said. “A couple of teams thought that, so I became a Bruin.”

Is he the guy you’re hoping cracks the lineup on the forward side of things? Anyone else?
I’m hoping Bjork finally figures it out. The guy has had two injury riddled seasons due his shoulder, which definitely didn’t help matters |

The leafs were going to sign him, their scout in the area put his name out their for them to sign but the management said no too small. He was only a kid, we're talking about like 13 or 14. He went to Boston instead, but he wanted to sign with the leafs.
I don't think there was any rule like that for anyone else. |
