His ice time would fall by roughly 30 secs a game at 5v5 so...

Exactly. Even with less games, Rust had more minutes, yet only 6 more points than Tanev despite playing 2/3 of the time with Crosby, Malkin, Jake, and Phil.

IMO, Rust is a little over-rated here. And Tanev is probably under-rated because his contract stinks and people want to pile on.

Nah. Rust is definitely better than Tanev.

I have 3 drinks at the most anymore just to “take the edge off”. Crown vanilla has been my thing this past week or so.

I find a few beer or drinks, like 2 or 3, end up giving me a headache.

My thing for edge off is the green...vaporized.

I really like the idea of Rust and Tanev playing on the same line in kind of a shutdown/checking role

I think they could give other teams top lines fits. Not sure Bjug would be the ideal center though, Maybe McCann?

It’s just gross. I remember growing up everyone would say Vodka has no flavor or smell, but to me it’s very specific.

It can disappear a bit in certain cocktails, but overall I can pick it out easily.

Used to drink Vladimir Vodka with Orange Livewire Mountain Dew in high school. Get poop faced in the woods. Never really want to drink vodka or orange dew anymore hahaha.

Historically Rust has an edge. I should have specified what Tanev did last year. If you want to argue Tanev needs to prove he can maintain that rate, I'd agree with you.

Last year, I see Rust at 1.7 pts/60 at 5v5 and Tanev at 1.53. I also see Rust getting 2/3 of his minutes in the top 6 while Tanev rarely playing off the 3rd line.

That's not demonstrably better to me. It's also in line with what Rust normally does, which is stretching the definition of top 6 production.

- Tojo.

My B. I fudged the numbers a bit by going Even Strength instead of 5v5.

What we’re really expecting here is that last year is the start of a trend for Tanev with production that is in the ball park of Rust’s but not there. IDK for me I’m not going all in on one year of sample when rust has had three years of producing at a consistent 1.7 pts/60 rate at 5v5 with a higher rate at even strength as a whole, meaning he’s skilled enough to be deployable at 4v4 and 3v3 situations.
