Yinz are (frank)ing nuts if you think McCann hits 50-60 points with minimal PP1 time. He’s not Guentzel.

McCann - 58 (if he plays on the first line it may be higher, but this is based on him switching between both the 1st and 3rd)

Kahun - 48 (I think he plays on the second line so I could see him having solid numbers)

Galchenyuk - 65 (same as with Kahun I see him with Malkin, but I could also see him on our top PP due to his ability to one time the puck which is why I choose 65 points).

Simon - 26 (I wanted to say 30 points, but I see Simon being played everywhere).

Bonus Prediction : Tanev - 3 SHG (I feel he comes in and shows us his speed and PK ability and why JR loved signing this guy).

- 123Kid

I'd like to see a total team point comparison between last season and the upcoming season. So subtracting Kessel, Hagelin, Sheahan, Brassard, and Maatta's points and adding Galch, Tanev, Kahun, Bjug, McCann.

I don't have the patience to look that all up but just at first glace, we could reasonably expect more overall goals/points.

Kessel, Hagelin, Sheahan, Brassard, and Maatta's points = 157

Galch, Tanev, Kahun, Bjug, McCann points = 168

These are their 2018-2019 totals....not just Pens related points.

McCann44 - Crosby 109 - Guentzel 70
Galchenyuk 62 -Malkin 106 -Kahun 43
Simon30 -Bjugstad40 -Hornqvist43
Tanev18 -Blueger21 -ZAR19

Dumoulin29 - Letang72
Petts38 - Schultz41
JJ13 - Guds7

Production is assuming a full season for each player in their respective spots. PP1 consists of Chucky, Letang, Malkin, Sid, Guentzel/HQ. PP2 consists of Schultz, Petts, Bjugstad, Kahun/McCann, Jake/HQ

MM flirts with 40 wins. DeSmith wins 10+. Pens are top 5 in PP despite losing Phil and are top 12 on the PK. Pens give up 3 shorties all season but score 6 or 7

I could never assume that....also, Rust is gone for sure?

I think 40 to 45 points is a reasonable expectation if he has a healthy season and plays mainly in the top-six with no significant PP time.

No, he's not gone for sure. Is there a good possibility? Sure, but it's coming down between JJ, Rust and Bjugstad. JJ is enough to clear space for Petts.

I think it's possible if he locked down the sweet spot next to Sid and Jake all year, but I don't think he will because we keep hearing the team doesn't want to bump Jake to RW.

Maybe with great chemistry Kahun could, but don't know if he gets that shot unless Rust is traded.

The hardest thing about projecting points with this forward group is we have no idea who will play where from game-to-game. All we know is Jake plays with Sid and that's it.

Sullivan changes lines the moment they bear no fruit. 40ish point players are streaky. That's why they're 40ish point players and not 70+ point players.

McCann, Simon, Rust and Kahun will all get rotated in the top-nine depending on who's cooling off and who's heating up. For all we know Simon plays most of the season with Sid and cracks over 40 points while McCann is a mainstay on the 3rd line.

McCann, Simon, and Kahun will all be in the mid 30's and Galchenyuk will likely pot 50 points. If we retain Bjugstad, I would put money he outperforms McCann, Kahun and Simon on the production front.
*Edit* I believe this because I think he and Hornqvist are the lock for the 3rd line, I think Simon Kahun and McCann will all rotate. I also fully believe that ZAR Teddy and Tanev are the 4th line and that Rust will be traded.

Put me in the camp that would have zero issue if they packaged him with a 1st. The next few years' draft picks can blow me. Dont care about them very much at all.

Certainly, knowing that signing Petts is the priority. And moving JJ is needed for that, and perhaps more, but do you take a flyer on Joe Morrow as a bottom pairing guy?

Thanks for helping with my laziness. That's definitely interesting. Obviously might not be a perfect apples to apples comparison since Maatta is a defenseman. But the biggest complaint about trading Kessel is replacing his points.

Overall as a team we should still score close to the same, if not more, and I think we will be better defensively.

Yeah I mean Kessel had 82 points, but the highest point total in group B there was Galch with 41, thats only half of Kessel's. However, in group A Sheahan, Brassard and Maatta didnt even break 20, while every single player in group B had over 20 but more so close to or more than 30 (29, 37, 35, 26). So there seems to be a bit more balance in scoring from this look.

This. 35 plus points at even strength puts you among the top 85 forwards in the league. McCann would need to score that , plus 15+ points playing the PK and 2nd power play.
Jake, who was a 40 goal scorer only had 11 power play points last year on the 2nd unit and he is definitely better than McCann. I think 40 points will be his ceiling, which isn't bad for a middle six guy who also kills penalties well.

I think most of us would like for him to stay but he has so much competition now and given his salary/position he’s simply the easier guy to move. Did he fall out of favor a bit with Sully? At times near the end of the season he played 16-20 minutes a game and then in the playoffs he went to 10-15.

Hoping JJ is gone is pretty optimistic. I like Gudbranson, just not if he’s playing with JJ. My hope remains that someone passes JJ on the depth chart

Great cocktail if you like ginger. Some people don’t.
