James Mirtle of The Athletic writes that Mitch Marner is not interested in a long-term contract extension with the Maple Leafs. This is not new information as it’s been widely reported he does not want to give away too many years of unrestricted free agency. What hasn’t been reported is the speculated counter Marner made to the Maple Leafs after they offered him eight years at more than $10 million per season.

Marner rumoured to counter at 3/10m bridge

Just gotta luv it 😂😂

I don't know man, 100 escort in vegas gets you an STI. Might as well just give it to a homeless person.

Gambling addiction? Unprotected sex in Vegas is the ultimate gamble. It's like the Deer Hunter but with Vaginas.

Initially in preseason I liked Lavoie but quickly lost any interest in him

They take on 9.7m for 4m plus JP’s new deal & another 1m for an AHL demotion.
The cap doesn’t work agreed forcing Holland to swing another deal. Losing Russell is the caveat & improved depth the reason, the local boys just happen to be a fluke & not beholden to them.

They traded for Neal doubling up on another big contract question mark in LE isn't a move Holland will do just to add Stecher over Russell.

Either can be exposed for the e-draft. Not likely another player is worth taking considering their depth. A small enticement probably makes it certain. JV for JP is more than fair considering JP’s demands & pouting. Russell has no future & Stecher can add much more mobility & gutsy play the Oilers need. The overall speed gained is easily a good fit for the Oilers. LE can fill roles the Oil sorely lack.

To make the cap work a revised trade

JP/Russell/Gagner/2nd or 3rd

Team culture won't be improved bringing in that package. There are other ways to get rid of LE.

LE goes to Sens for Ryan so they save real dollars. Canucks buy out in two years.

If you want JP the Oil would want a more vet top six or a combo prospect. Perhaps Pearson plus Goldy.

I’ve posted Ryan trades & got no traction here.

Rather keep Pearson & open up a spot for Goldy for a show me season. As for culture we net lose 1 roster player & can let time work out the details. Gaining a contract spot is good.

My thinking is Stecher is expendable for the right trade or package to get us one more good piece. In the next 1-3yrs we have OJ Woo Rathbone Utenen to look & hope for to be good adds. Other prospect D can be stay at home types to round out pairings. Overall I’m liking the potential the JB’s have drafted or signed.

In that same 3yr time frame prospect F’s will have pushed out some vets. Podz Hoagie Madden etc.

On another tangent...

Uncle Lou in NY likes his goalies so maybe Dipietro is of interest or maybe Marky if Demko can break out this season or shows he can take the load of 50-55 games.

Wahlstrom would be my target somehow & they have Dobson & Wilde in the D pipeline. They do want more offence up front mainly at C but those are very hard to get.

NJD can use depth so Sutter comes to mind & a goalie. Same goes for the Sabres.

Why & who does he play with? We have Boeser for Pettersson & he definitely isn’t a compatible option for Bo.

Craig Buttons projected Jr. Canada line up
Laffy Veleno Dach
Foote Hayton Noel
Foudy Dellandrea Thomas
Fortier Cozens
Lavoie

Byram Dobson
Smith Dumby-Docker
McIsaac Barron
Bahl

Rodrigue

First of all if that is all Canada can field for a team, I wouldn't be shocked with another QF loss.

Other thoughts.
Woo>Dumby-Docker
Newhook>Foote
Krebs>Noel
McMichael>Fortier
If Lavoie makes the team, you might as well have gone with 8 D and used one of them as a forward.

World Juniors is about speed and scoring.

I am wondering from the "whiners" club what exactly could have Jim Benning done better over his time to make this team more competitive and be SC finalists by now?

Please no "what if", actual solid proof of how things could have been different.

Also how many are up for the vacant Minnesota Wild job?

First of all, every scenario anyone could propose is a what if, so your question is bull poop.

But...

He could have kept and made his own draft selections instead of chasing some competitiveness / Sedin window.

Signing UFA's? Whatever, it's only money, and based on the old group of players, none of those signing did much to help the team be competitive. But if they had managed to flip even a few more guys (a la Vanek) there would be another half dozen guys pushing for NHL action by now.

They still probably are not contenders for another couple seasons, but they would certainly have more depth, and be capable of sustaining their competitiveness longer.
