If he was a lefty then i'd consider signing him, but we have too many rightys already, so pass. Smith deserves to be on this team and not in the press box, and he's already likely the 6th/7th Dman

Fitzy said that was the cherry on top landing Gusev but dont be shocked if Ray wasnt done.

He said you never know who is going to call we still have cap and there are teams that still dont.

He didnt sound as certain as Blitzer did when he said it but nice to know we are keeping our options open even after the killer summer we have already had.

Any of us figure out which of the two between Walsh and Davies is the better prospect ?

There was a ton of hype around one ( I thought Walsh ) but they havent been mentioned since we started making moves.

Obviously Davies went in the Subban deal, but I was curious what Walshs chances might be of making the team ? They seemed decent before the P.K trade and I dont think he is where Smith is at so im guessing if he plays that side its not good?? but maybe ok if he plays on the side Greene does where we are weaker.

This is Greene's last year and possibly Vatanen's too. So it wouldn't be horrible to add a quality defender. My preference would be Gardiner but I think Shattenkirk could be a good buy low opportunity. Either guy on a short term deal could be a good move and maybe trade chips; meaning either move them or another guy like Vats if we have extra.

We have a lot of guys right now but how many are legit NHL top 4 defenders and how many guys end up getting hurt every year? Who's going to stay and who's not?

I'm not saying going hard after either guy but if the situation is good it's worth considering.

Yeah we seem to have more a shortage of high end defending then good puck movers.

I'd think Shattenkirk's knee is fine (it was just meniscus which isn't too major) but he's always been a mediocure defender.

yea.. kind of with ALL of our defensemen, which is a shame, considering a good portion of their job is to defend and limit quality scoring chances against us.

The positive is we'll have no issues moving the puck out of our zone..

Agreed. I liked Mueller defensively when he wasn't paired with another anchor like Santini or Gryba but he just seems to think the game too slowly at this level. He'd have a few very good shifts and then a complete brain fart. And just throws the puck away too much.
