Kunitz officially retires and joins Chicago's staff. Surprised Pens didn't give him that opportunity. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I guess he said to management he wanted to retire, they offered him the position right away and promptly accepted. |

Great position to be with Hischier and Hughes as your two primary centers. Very young. The future is secured. |

They've both thrown a lot of new pieces together and who knows how that'll ever work out. They've both infidelity improved on paper without question. I give a slight edge to the Devils. |

No, the D is still pretty meh. They have a better supporting cast and Kahun and Mccann are wildcards. You can bet on Malkin being hurt for a chunk of hte season too. |

I was hoping Cullen would be invited for a similar position before Kunitz. He strikes me as a better "teacher". |

We have so many middle wingers right now: Kahun, McCann, Rust, Simon, Tanev, Aston-Reese, Hörnqvist...they all could get top 6 minutes without a doubt. I like it as long as we play with passion this season. Love our Cs too. |

You can pretty much guarantee that Kuni doesn’t accept the job unless his family loves it in Chicago. Might not have mattered what kind of vacancies we do or don’t have open if that’s the case
It does kinda make me wonder what if we could’ve kept Kuni as a depth winger rather than bring Cullen back. Worst case scenario he would’ve been 4LW on a cheap contract. Why does that make me wonder? Because we could’ve seen more of Blueger or Johnson in that spot and avoided Wilson |

But tbh G.Wilson was alright against the Islanders. We just had an all around bad performance as a team. No desire to win after the 1st game we lost. |

NJ for sure. Depending on how good Kakko is in his first year the Rangers could wind up having one the best lines in the NHL with Panarin-Zib-Kakko, but there are still so many weaknesses on that team compared to NJ.

I think the rangers did a litter better, worse team still but better offseason. Subban>Trouba. hughes>=kakko, wash becasue who knows. Panarin>Gusev(next Panarin) from what people are saying. If Gusev is another panarin, or close, then I give it to the Devils, but hard to give it to them before Gusev plays in NHL.
edit: read it wrong, Devils much better team, Rangers better upgrades.
also kinda funny that the Devils went out to get Gusev and they are still paying penalties on Kovalchuk |

The more I look at our roster the more I wish Hörnqvist and his $5M contract was off the books. If we could trade two out of J.Johnson, Gudbranson and Hörnqvist we'd be in pretty good shape.
McCann - Crosby - Guentzel
Rust - Malkin - Galchenyuk
Simon - Bjugstad - Kahun
Aston-Reese - Blueger - Tanev |

Those are three bad contracts that were completely avoidable. There are so many things the Pens could have done this or even last year if they didn't pick up those players.
In essence, JR traded pending UFA Hagelin (when the Pens could have been free and clear financially) for Gudbranson which is terrible asset management when you already have another 3rd pairing dman making $3.25M.
Hornqvist? I mean, his price and term aren't necessarily THAT bad, not wise, but not THAT bad. Plenty of teams probably give him that, but the full NTC? That was just a monster mistake.
I'm not going to get started on JJ because well, we all know that one. The Pens could be in a completely different position right now. |

JR wanted to strike gold when they went after Pearson and 3 more years of contract, hoping a change of scenary would do well for him. We all saw he was nothing special even for our 3rd line. Fools gold.
But I liked the Pearson for Gudbranson swap considering no one probably wanted to take him. |

Congratulations to Kunitz on an outstanding career. Undrafted player to a 4 time Cup winner, gold medalist, and for his 20s Crosby's best linemate. |

I mean, in the pens case, they had Phil on the 3rd line when they won. If the 3C isn't very good, you can get away with it but you still need at least one talented/play-driver on the 3rd line. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Back in the early Cup days, Pens had Jagr in the third line. |

Jersey has a big advantage at center, but if they lose Hall and Nashville was right about Subban starting to decline, I don't like them better anywhere else.
I think Rangers are deeper at wing and defense, have key guys locked in longer, and have better potential answers in goal so I'm going there. |

Callahan to the Sens. Insurance will pay 80% of his contract. Lots of dollars saved for Melnyk |

New York Islanders. 4th line will eat up any scoring line in the league. |
