So then they did essentially have the option to go a full 5.8mil over the Cap...

Correct?

- jdfitz77

They could have, but it's complicated, and really a move of last resort. You're totally handcuffed then and can't make a trade if you want to without money in, money out. Which kinda kills the 1st for a big time rental that a lot of teams do.

They would get relief on the amount they are over the 81.5, up to Callahan's 5.8 salary
If they signed Gardiner to $4m, then they only get credit for the 4.
If they signed Gardiner for 6.2 they would have to move somebody, then LTIR Cally and get credit for the overage amount only (capped again at Callys 5.8)

- IonSabres

Ok... that’s what i thought
So putting him on LTIR would give them use of Cally’s 5.8mil Cap hit,
or however much of that they needed

That’s no different then if the Sabres went right up to the 81.5mil Cap though

Of course,
in either situation you’d like some wiggle room
Injuries do happen

Wasn’t it Detroit, or Jersey maybe,
that had to play a couple games with only 17skaters like 2years ago?

Take the next step, this is the real world. No one goes right to the cap. Injuries happen, call ups need to be made. LTIR teams work hard to get an ounce of room to work with, gaming the system. Non-LTIR teams have more flexibility, and don't need to operate within LTIR limitations.

Yes, they’d like to have wiggle room
I never said they wouldn’t

Teams not operating with a guy on LTIR still have to leave themselves wiggle room up against the Cap

What i said was correct
Tampa could’ve used all 5.8mil of Cally’s Cap Hit if they needed & wanted to do so

You said that was wrong
I was right

New Jersey, because of Kovalchuk and his reworked contract.

You were being very unclear. It read like no matter how much space they have they could use all of his hit.

It's infinitely better to get rid of his contract. They save $4.5M in real money this year and don't have to worry about the pitfalls of LTIR.

So, not to harp on Gusev...

But i was thinking that maybe Botts doesn’t make that trade bc he wants the room for Gardiner or a forward that he is planning on trading for?

Still wish we’d have gotten him though

The DBTB guys don't show Samuelsson any favor because he's not an offensive puck mover. Doesn't mean he can't do his job well.

Team USA seem to think he's doing his job very well, more so than former 1st round draft pick, K'Andre Miller.

Look what happens when there's no analytics to study. Irritating to see twitter commentators knock a guy because he's not Colin Miller.

But now they had to take back Condon’s hit

So as u said, they have upto 4.5mil in room now
When they could’ve had upto 5.8mil in room

Whether they’re up against the high end of the LTIR limit, or just the regular Cap limit now...
It still gets complicated throughout the season
Especially when injuries occur

"They may be able to maneuver enough to come close"

If you still don't think that's the realistic answer, you're still not getting it.

I follow 4 teams on twitter, not to mention some other interesting accounts. Why would I stay off twitter when 5% of my twitter feed sometimes says things I disagree with. Come on Fitz, now you're just stabbing.

$4.5M with infinitely more flexibility though. It's so much more worth it.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is 8000 yards away from being in the top 25 all time in yards.

Let that sink in for a minute.

55 + 3 = 28 + 85

Then

Add 51 for 4/24

Really? Only 5%

In my experience, it’s more like 95% of Twitter that’s total nonsense

I guess i just don’t see the “infinitely more flexibility” part?

Let’s say they kept Cally & used up 5.5 of his 5.8mil available to them

Is that any different then now, if they went to 81.2mil with all their signings?

Maybe I’m missing something here
But it seems like ppl are just trying to make this more complicated

U can keep twisting things however u like

If what you meant was that they need to leave room for injuries,
then just say that instead of trying to make what I’m saying look wrong
Especially when it’s actually correct
