Nice thoughts here. But trading within your division is always tricky.

not if you want to give up the first pick in the 6th round for a late 6th round pick the following year

Detroit blogger just put up a new blog about the Red Wings adding Finnish dmen. If they are building the future with Finnish players on the back end, perhaps they would be looking to add Risto. With the rumors of TB wanting Risto last season and Yzerman now Detroit's GM, this could have some legs.

Risto for Bertuzzi

How about Anthony Mantha?

Arizona is another team right at the cap ceiling with 21 players signed. They do have Hossa for LTIR, which gives them some space to fill out the roster.
Wonder if Söderberg would be available? He could be a good stopgap 2C. One year left at $4.75m. Big bodied and from Sweden, so may fit what the Sabres would be looking for.

Ah yes, but we used that 6th and a 7th to move to a 5th.

Edit: And drafted a Swedish winger

Why do you think that?
First full NHL season he had 21g 26a in 73 games. At even strength he had 18g 23a.
I know LW is not a big need, but with Mojo, Vesey and Sheary able to play RW, I think we could make it work.

Dumb question:

E-Rod's 1 year deal will mean he is still an RFA at the end or is he a UFA in a year?

Thought RFA, wasn't sure. HELP!

And I know our site here says RFA* but it's been wrong before.

But the other teams that traded their 6th, higher pick, got a 5th

Ralphie is going to have his work cut out for him when Botts gives him nothing but Left Wingers and Right D-man to put on the ice. But Dahlin gets to play "rover" and go wherever the heck he wants to.

A couple guys out there that did not receive qualifying offers could be good adds at the right price. Ben Hutton, Tobias Rieder, maybe take a chance with Danny Audette (Donald's kid born here in Buffalo).
Also, just saw Baptiste wasn't qualified.

Not sure if he decided to play a 2-2-1 or 1-3-1 yet.

The article is from March. A lot has changed since. Still moves to be made though.

Any article I've read on all the sites I visit all bring up the injury. At this point I'd rather bring in Phaneuf on a PTO.

Playing guys on their off-wing is not inconsequential. Most simply aren't as good there. If you want to flip multiple 3rd line quality LW's over, you're asking for problems and you have few options if it doesn't work.

Maybe, but arbitration might be playing into it as well. Not a ton of $ left to go around.
