Find that compelling? His S% (and production) dropped, as his time with Crosby dropped off. I think there's a much stronger case that he's a 10% shooter away from Crosby. I don't have to write an article and attract views though.

I'm not sure why you seem to take offense to an article positing there's a potential for Sheary's numbers to rebound.

Sam Reinhart is not a centre, he has not had success there at all in the nhl. If you take him off the wing we have literally no one to play the right side except Okposo. No way they move Sam to centre imo.
- Sabres1523

Assuming Botts' makes no trades for a 2C, I hope they play Reinhart with Mitts on the second line together.

This is a sink or swim year for Sam. Big bucks , long term on the line.

Sabres need to see what he can do on his own line.

This "driving a line" has me skeptical.

If so, we are maybe a good 2c from contending for the playoffs

- Boss34

A lot of people genuinely think Sam has already proven he can drive his own line. Granted, that means different things to different people. I don't know how anyone who watched last season could think Sam drove even an average 2nd line. He had a good, extended stretch with RoR on the 2nd line the previous year....how much credit do you give Sam for driving that? To me, a winger driving a line implies that he's doing it with a lesser C.

I think you read a little more into my post.

You seem like a great talent evaluator, must have a 55 inch TV like ion?

Sam is still young, we have had terrible coaching. Maybe that's part of looking like a fool at center?
Maybe he can adjust- I doubt it

Good point with the lack of depth at rw?

Wish we had out 4th leading goal scorer from last year under contract. He could help

- Boss34

Hey, hey...
65" SHDTV! ... and I sit close during the games, lol.

Sam is a solid player, his possession metrics are strong and he makes everyone better he plays with in that regard. I'd love to re-try him as a C WITH BETTER PLAYERS than had before...how could anyone succeed with those baboons he'd had as wingers... christ, they made Ellie look like an allstar. I mean, if folks want to give Risto his 5th chance with the player-whisperer in Krueger, why not Sam as a C for a bit with guys like Johansson and Vesey...see what they can do.

RW is a big big need for this team

Wasn't he a center in junior ?

He underlying stats are good. When he was the 2C with fringe AHLers, his line posted solid possession numbers...they just couldn't score because they sucked worse at shooting then our dear friend Ellie. He also helped Jack when on line 1 for sure. He is a good player.

I think the simplest way of putting it is that he doesn't have the speed to play C in the NHL

Sam's a good player, no doubt. He's proven he's an effective complimentary player.

His underlying stats, not his actual production, were good for a short stretch 4 years ago as a 3C. If that's the case that he should be their 2C this year, I think it's a reach.

I think they need Sam to drive the 2nd line. Phil did too, but strayed from that quickly and for all the wrong reasons.

65 inches, impressive.

I'd like to see Sam get a shot at 2c. Maybe preseason?

I cant pretend that I expect great things from him this year without John Jack.

Hope so. It would be huge for this franchise.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think okposo has the same amount or more goals then Sam in October and November.

Okposo 8
Sam < or = 8

That's fine. There's a reason I post here, instead of there. I think they do a lot of soft, click-baity work over there. Pach is more objective and balanced with his pieces.

That author is big into advanced stats and uses that often for his articles. Sounds like you don't buy into advanced stats much.

There’s way too much data being analyzed in the piece to dismiss as “clickbait”

I’m not saying he’s right. I’m just saying there’s more to talk about.

Don’t need a 55 inch tv to see Sam struggled at centre, I wouldnt think coaching has a huge affect on a players ability to play a position, if he could play it he would have when Jack went down last year.

If mitts is the 2nd line center, he should be in between Reinhart and Johansson imo.

Let's be honest here. I made a few points, and they were countered by linking articles that I disagree with. If you want to discuss a point in the article, bring it up. I'm not going to give a detailed response to a link that's been discussed here many times before.

I love advanced stats, but I find that he writes a lot using them almost exclusively. I think he leans on them too heavily, just my opinion of course.

Good point about last season when Jack went down.
Suspended I'm guessing?

He should have had a look at center.

Phail lousley was not a good coach though

Ion's 65 inch TV may have made the difference? Extra 10 inches?

I like mitts at 2c. I think jbotts does too

Lets be honest. You didn’t make ANY points. You stated your own conclusion without reference to any of the data you claim to love.

I have no intention of getting into an argument over this, because I’d rather see Sam play on the first line and see us acquire a proven value at 2C.
