Top 10 ‘untradeable’ NHL contracts
Ken Campbell of The Hockey News: The ‘bad’ contracts of Milan Lucic, James Neal, and David Clarkson have been traded over the past week or so. Taking a look at the top 10 contracts that have four or more seasons remaining that may be untradeable.
10. Kyle Turris – Nashville Predators – five years left at $6 million. Could give a sweetener to Seattle before the expansion draft.
9. Justin Abdelkader – Detroit Red Wings – four years left at $4.25 million.
8. Kyle Okposo – Buffalo Sabres – four years left at $6 million. Has concussion concerns.
7. Nick Schmaltz – Arizona Coyotes – signed for seven years at a $5.9 million cap hit. Basically only one NHL season under his belt.
6 and 5. Ryan Suter and Zach Parise – Minnesota Wild – Both signed 13-year, $98 million deals in 2012. Both have dealt with some injuries and have NTCs.
4. Andrew Ladd – New York Islanders – three years into his seven-year, $38.5 million deal. Only 15 goals the past two seasons, and injuries limited to 26 games last year.
3. Kevin Hayes – Philadelphia Flyers – signed a seven-year, $49 million deal this offseason.
2. Brent Seabrook – Chicago Blackhawks – 34-year-old has five years left at a $6.9 million cap hit.
1. Shea Weber – Montreal Canadiens – seven years at a $7.9 million cap hit.
-------------------------------
I like how Hayes makes it to number 3 on the list. |

Now the whiners are whining about cheering too hard for the prospects 🤦🏽♂️ Quite impressive. Also, pretty sure Troy has him as a lock for Calder - CanuckDon
Me?
Nope... In a rookie class like this, I won’t be putting my $ on a Dman who will likely get misused by the coaching staff. If he’s given the chance to play ES in a 5 man unit with EP’s line & on PP1, he has a shot. |

I had thought the same thing at first until I read the fine print that said 4 seasons or longer remaining.

I think the calder is going to be between the bros’ hughes. The story wrotes itself and trophies are all about scoring. I think qh negatives will be in his d and turnovers, would not at all be surprised at 40+ points. Book it minivan!
Also Marwood, you said the same thing when myself and a few others said ep would get 60+ last year. Bit of a negative nelly there bud? |

Not too shabby Canucks have 2 calder winners and one nominee and could add another this season - NuckUp
Green is a dreadful coach, so I doubt it. |

I will be surprised if Baertschi, Goldobin and Erickson make the bottom 6. - Reubenkincade
I don't understand why you don' think he makes the team? He was excellent when healthy. As long as he is healthy, he should be a lock. Staying healthy... well that is a whole different conversation.

It’s a fcking fan site man. You want people to be less excited about one of our best prospects? That should liven it up in here. - CubanBuffet

I havent seen anyone call him a Calder candidate in here, nor a future hall of Famer, but it doesnt mean we shouldnt still be excited. Team has been so dog poop for so long and had such dog poop prospects for so long, a player like Hughes is a breath of fresh air and we should all be excited, but with tempered expectations. - Codes1087
... and a $10m resigning? Where did that get mentioned? Canucks.com? Isnt it funny how people post about keeping it real and then write fiction in the same post? |

No expectation Hogs makes it. It's in fact extremely unlikely. But we were talking surprises at camp. He was already playing pro level and Canucks wanted to concentrate on training and not summer tournaments. So of those that are capable he is one of them because he could play in the bottom six and has offensive talent as well. - NuckUp
I'm not even sure he'll be in this falls camp but he did make a comment a few weeks ago about planning to make it this season. He may just decide he'd be better off focusing on camp in Sweden for his draft+1.

I am interested to see how the Calder race works out, there will be some exciting players to watch, I would be ecstatic if Quinn was in the running.
But there are at least 4 players that have potential to win the trophy, Makar, Q. Hughes, J. Hughes, Kakko. - Makita
Agreed. I'm not even sure QH will be the best D in this rookie class and then there is those forwards.

After seeing Makar in the NHL last season and him being 2 years older than QH, I'd be pretty surprised.

You’d be pretty surprised if qh got 40+ points because of a rookie on another team?! That’s odd.
I agree with maki: makar, both hughes and kakko are the front runners to start the year |
