Some are calling him a Calder candidate.
Future Hall of Famer?

- Marwood

I havent seen anyone call him a Calder candidate in here, nor a future hall of Famer, but it doesnt mean we shouldnt still be excited. Team has been so dog poop for so long and had such dog poop prospects for so long, a player like Hughes is a breath of fresh air and we should all be excited, but with tempered expectations.

If hughes plays over 60 games, stays healthy, gets a good amount of minutes, and moves his way to PP1 I'll be stoked. I couldnt care less about the Calder for him tbh.

Thats a dream that Canuck fans need to let go. I'll be happily surprised if he did, but less than a handful of 1st rounders make it to the NHL the year they were drafted and maybe a handful a decade for the rest of the draft.
- chompsey

No expectation Hogs makes it. It's in fact extremely unlikely. But we were talking surprises at camp. He was already playing pro level and Canucks wanted to concentrate on training and not summer tournaments. So of those that are capable he is one of them because he could play in the bottom six and has offensive talent as well.

of your list the one i am least confident will happen is he gets to play much pp1. i do think hell get a calder nom even if his point totals dont quite blow people away

60 games, 30 points, proper deployment and put in a position to develop and I'll be happy.
- Codes1087

60+ games with his usage and minutes increasing as the season wears on would be a successful season in my eyes.
as for points: 25 would be good; 30 - 40 would be very good/great; 40+ would be an almost perfect rookie season.

I am interested to see how the Calder race works out, there will be some exciting players to watch, I would be ecstatic if Quinn was in the running.

But there are at least 4 players that have potential to win the trophy, Makar, Q. Hughes, J. Hughes, Kakko.

It's realistic to say he doesn't have a ceiling. If he excels then he's a difference maker for this season. At the very least he improves on Hutton's contributions.

Yes. Though D traditionally get less attention. The media is geared up for a Kakko v J. Huges race.

Uh oh, don't read my previous post, but I have high hopes for Quinn. I know it will be next to impossible for a defense man to win the trophy but this kid is a stud.

random (and useless) calder factoid:

since the lock out only the pens (2006 crosby, 2007 malkin/stall), chicago (2008 kane/toews, 2009 versteeg), vancouver (2018 boeser, 2019 pettersson) have had back to back calder finalists.

no one has had 3 consecutive noms in that span but i believe demko will deliver!!!!!!!!

Now the whiners are whining about cheering too hard for the prospects 🤦🏽‍♂️ Quite impressive. Also, pretty sure Troy has him as a lock for Calder

Yes? Did he win, no.

My point was it's not common for defensive players to win the Calder, Ekblad, Meyers, Jackman and Leetch in the last 30 years

lol ya cheering for the team to fail seems to be the norm with that clown show.

But really...who is the head clown?
