So that would give Canucks 24 mil in space with 15 players signed and the biggest name to re-sign is Markstrom. Where is the issue? - VANTEL
There is no issue. Just the people that want the team to continue losing forever so they can tell us all they were right...for once lol |

Apparently spending to the cap max every year but finishing at the bottom of the league is a good thing. The future also doesn't matter. In a nutshell.
Or it can be seen as Benning fanboys against not real fans. - Marwood
I see it from both sides. Spending to the max and finishing at or near the bottom is bad, but finishing at the bottom and not spending to the cap would have people complaining too. At some point, the canucks will have to spend to the cap and get competitive again and with Hughes, pettersson, boeser, horvat, the time might be soon. My gripes might be small and insignificant, but I still dislike the miller payment (not the player) and myers term (not the player). All in all, I see both sides of the argument. Cumulatively, sutter, erikson, beagle contracts that people are complaining about are over payments, and may actually impact us at some point, but I still dont see us having a problem today, or next year, or when hughes and pettersson need new contracts. |

Not sure why people assume full freak out mode is taking place, when all anyone is doing is raising the issue.
Btw, even Benning stated that the Luongo recapture caught them off guard, and they would have to be cognizant of that cap hit moving forward.
Hopefully, it means, no more bonehead free-agent signings, like everyone's favourite player, Loui Erickson. - Reubenkincade
Benning said they planned for the Luongo issue. They were aware it could happen.
Every team has a Loui Eriksson . This cap thing is fabricated. Every year teams will be cap compliant and will find loopholes for teams close to the cap.
Now teams are using the LTIR as the loophole which allows teams to spend an extra 8-10 mil a year.
I would much rather the team spending to the max than giving Aquilini an extra 10 mil a year to put back in his pocket. |

My gripes are the Sven Loui and maybe Stecher . I am okay with the rest of them. They did a lot of house cleaning. |

Can we at least agree, that 3.5 million should be deducted for performance bonuses?
Brock at a minimum of 6 million
1 goalie, 3 defensemen, 4 forwards.
Plus, you know Benning will sign at least 1 free agent at 3-5 million, leaves them close to the cap ceiling, assuming the goalie, defense and forwards are at a million each.
I am not in freakout mode, just being aware that the cap isn't a non-issue, like some here. |

I truly see both sides. Performance and position in the lineup, the allocation of cap towards sven, sutter, beagle in the bottom 6 isnt the greatest, and I'm assuming that's where and why people are complaining. Not saying it happens, but if myers ends up being a bottom pair, 6 aav isnt a good look either (myers isnt a bottom pairing imo though). All in all, I dont see us being in cap troubles when Hughes and pettersson need contracts. Edler and his cap come off the books and I'm hoping that's exactly what Hughes will cost (who knows at this point though). Pearson, sutter, sven, benn and their cap hits will all be gone by the time pettersson needs a contract. Things will be fine. |

Lies.
They knew about the recapture 2 weeks prior and not every team has a Loui Eriksson. What a load of sh*t. |

They signed those two so we could finish with 53 points again. |

Bullsh1t .
No one knew but Luongo or the Fla Panthers. They were prepared for it and had the space so that if RL did retire they could handle it.

Yes they will be cap compliant and have room for their star players despite what the Notrealfans whine about. |

You can't project here unless you're projecting all of our prospects to be stars without being called a hater. |

Hockeybuzz has never been about that rationality or middle ground, it's always black and white and one way or the other |

Has anyone called or labeled you a hater? There is a difference between not agreeing on certain things and having an opinion but there is also a few in here that hate everything.

I've always pointed to two summers from now, when EP, QH, Demko, Juolevi are due new contracts.
Either they're going to get paid or they aren't going to be nearly as productive as is projected. Currently, we have 7 players under contract on the roster for that season (1D) though we'll undoubtedly have a few ELC's. The current cap hit is north of $35M, and I think it's fairly conservative to suggest that EP and BB will account for another $15M. |

I think many are expecting a big jump in the cap with a new american broadcasting agreement, yet to be negotiated, starting in 2021-22.
guessing that is what people are looking at, and Sutter will be gone by then. |

If Demko is going to get big money in the 5 mil range then Markstrom will be gone. They will pay regardless two goalies 4-7 mil combined.
Juolevi will be getting an insignificant contract if he is still with the team.
The real question is what will EP and QH get.

I am okay with those signings, term for Myers was 1 year too long, but he will be a welcome addition, imo. |

and we will likely see moves before then too.
the club looks to be improved, no doubt, but can't wait for the, "we can't lose this guy on waivers" arguments to come this fall. |

Pretty much bang on.
I don't think Sven will be a Canuck too long. You don't bring in Ferland if the recapture caught you off guard or Sven is going to be your top 6.
I am going to enjoy the season playoffs or not.
Canucks will keep the players they think are important and they will make the cap. |

Agreed on above minus Sven, I think at 3.4M IF he can stay healthy, he will be a great bargain + potential trade chip. He was been decent for PPG. If he could put up 45 points in 80 games, that's a great contract (I think he can do it, 26 is a good break out age) |

I hope I am wrong . It would be nice seeing third liners putting up 15-20 goals. I am not a fan of his but I wish him/us well. |
