Why the hell would you sign a depth player to a 7 year deal??
-ray97
Because he isnt likely to stay a depth player. He is a 25 year old who hit 30 points last year as a depth player. This is how young players make a name for themselves. Not every guy starts off like a Tavares or a Panarin. Claude Giroux only had 27 points in his 2nd NHL Season
This is a great deal for Nashville because he is a player they expect to step up and when he does, he will be a steal at his contract price. |

he'll be 26 years old in November. This isn't a young kid. |

If Sissons truly believed he was going to get much better you'd have to think he'd opt for much less term... |

Hope you're right, but by 25 in the NHL most guys are what they are. Right now Sissons is a solid third line player who can sporadically produce offense. Like the player, but not a big fan of signing role players to long term deals. D.P. is probably hoping Colton suddenly turns into a 30 goal scorer, so then he looks like a genius for signing him to that deal.

Did it take Claude Giroux five seasons to break double digit goals? |

No but he is still a potential top 6 guy. 27-28 Is your prime years. If his peak is 40-50 its an absolute steal at 3 mill AAV . I wouldnt go as far and say its the best signing of the year but it is good |

A bit different. Giroux had a much higher ceiling and Giroux pretty much went straight to the top line after with the Carter and Richard deals |

If you're going to float a narrative like that with a player like Giroux, tell the whole story. Those 27 points were put up in 42 games. |

Sissons is a nice defensive/depth player for sure.
Nothing in his history or statistical profile suggests that he's capable of 40+ points, much less holding down a "top line roll". He scored a hat trick once. That's about it. He's no Brad Marchand.
Ek came up with this hot take for clicks and engagement. Don't fall for it. |

From the looks of it he is heading to 2nd line RW. Right now Turris is in that spot and I dont see that sticking. He may not even be with the team by season start. I dont think for a 2nd he will be in a top line roll. I just believe he can take a 2nd line role, worst case 3rd line role which is still good for 3 mill |

The point your making in this post isnt unreasonable but the Giroux part is extremely misleading. Giroux was 21, had only played 2 nhl games the previous season, and scored those 27 point in 42 games in what was actually considered his rookie season. |

He's another Dale Weise. Guy scores a few points, and suddenly GMs dream that he's some great untapped well.
Imagine if the Flyers had signed Weise to a 7-year deal instead of 4. |

Yeah, I’m not sure how this is a good deal. 7 years for a bottom 6 winger, seems like more risk than reward here. |

Buddy, with all due respect, what are you talking about? It’s pretty well know that an NHL players peak is 27 years old. CS is 26 a month into this upcoming season, which is his 6th in the NHL. His career high in points is 30 and he’s broken double digits in goals once. At 26 years old, what do you see this guy developing into in the next 7 years? And don’t give me all the intangibles nonsense and how great he is both ways, all you have to do is look back to the cup finals vs PIT where he was moved onto the first line due to injuries and the pens made him look stupid all series. This is a bad signing, end of discussion. |

I dont think he is like Weise at all. Weise had more of a track record of not hitting the 20 point mark. He hit it twice with MTL and then Philly got sucked in. I did not like the signing. Weise was slow and provided little to a team. It was Hextall's first bad move. Many may say the Umberger trade was but that deal I liked. Not because of Umberger but because of the cap relief we got from it. We were in Cap hell and that gave us cap room 3 years earlier(because of buyout) after the mess the team was left in cap wise. |

So with more ice time you dont think that 30 points could turn into 40? Worst case he is a 3rd line player. How many teams have players on the 3rd line under 3 mill AAV that arent on ELC? |

Hexy got sucked into believing that Weise was a 3rd-line guy you could play up the lineup and on the PP. Sound familiar?
Turns out he was a replacement-level player w/ delusions of grandeur. |

It’s the TERM! This contract may be great for the next 1-3 years but what about in year 4 when he’s 30 years old? You can’t really believe he’s going to be putting up 40+ points then do you? And that’s only the middle year of his contract! |
