Todd Cordell: Pavel Zacha will play an important role in 2019-20 - Todd.Cordell
Zacha ended on a high note, and that was nice to see. I still have yet to see any other OHL forward drafted in the top 10 that was under 1ppg. Anyway, I feel his role this season will disappear, especially with the addition of Hughes down the middle. Unless he is willing to play the wing, he will be in competition for 4C with Mcleod. Mcleod is developing very nicely, but should consider moving to RW. |

He was supposed to be so much more. I fully understand making lemonade because we were given lemons, but it’s hard to feel anything but overwhelming disappointment thus far. The fact that he is just the latest example of seemingly endless line of failed first round picks makes it even harder to swallow. |

Bang on! But just Remember our past 3 1st rounders. Nico/Smith/Hughes. That ain't bad! |

3 good first round picks in a row is encouraging despite 2 being practically easy picks as a number 1 pick. I wonder what could have been too but Zacha is on the team for better or worse and at least he's useful in some parts of the game. |

Compared to Niklas Bergfors, Matt Corrente, Mattais Tedneby, Jacob Josefson, Stefan Matteau and John Quenneville, Pavel Zacha has been great. Adam Larsson was our last 1st rounder who turned out OK before Nico.... On the other end is Zajac taken in 2004. That's some poopty drafting right there. |

The "genius of David Conte". When the Devils were great at the draft it was Marhsall Johnston running things for Lou.
However, the Devils have not been kind to their picks either. Whether it be rushing them, asking to change how the style of play, or asking them to carry roles they were not ready for, they should be asking themselves about how the development plan is working. |

I don't think we can give up on the idea of Zacha being an above average offensive player just yet. He is still 22 after all. William Karlsson might be an extreme example, but he had 6 goals in 81 games in 2016-17 when he was 24 years old.
Zacha just oozes talent when you look at his highlights from last season. He just needs to put it all together. |

I hope I am wrong i really do, but can we for the love of god stop pretending Ty Smith is the answer to are defensive problems. I have been watching him play for the last 4 years and no doubt he had his best season last year, and he shows some promise he might turn in to a great defender. With that being said Smith has not proven anything yet ,for all we know he could be the next great resent first round disappointment (looking at you Zacha & McLeod) just my opinion, hope he is amazing at this level just to much love given to him at this point. |

Travel back in time and trade for Trouba and sign Panarin. Problems solved...
And then Trade Hall for assets.
OR since that boat sailed we could sign Gardiner.... |

I think he will play wing better. He’s a big guy and only 22 |

I forgot.
I looked back further and the number of first round picks who didn't pan out at all is remarkable.

I fully agree to this. He's never going to be a perennial all-star, but the kid is 22. I can see him being one of the most underrated players on our team, and he definitely has the shot/talent. Just needs to come into his own. He started doing that at the end of last year. |

True. He hasn't done anything yet to show he is a great NHL D. Hughes has also done absolutely nothing. This does not make them irrelevant. Heck, Davies didn't set foot on NHL ice and was a key piece in the Subban trade! I am excited at these A+ prospects, the fact we have a ton of cap space, a young core, and some of the biggest trade bait options should Shero chose to make another one of his outstanding trades. I am not sure what you expected this team to do in the offseason, but I am extremely happy with the direction of this club. |

Didnt foster have like a broken back or someting. I remember he had some issues and they took a chance drafting him knowing it might not pan out./ |

I don't feel he "oozes talent" one bit. Love the optimism, but from every single league he played in, he has put up average to sub-par numbers. He wasn't even a top 50 OHL player the year he was drafted. I agree he could become part of a terrific 3rd line, and help greatly on the pk, but that talent has yet to ooze onto a stat sheet. |

I don't recall that but if you look at his stats below he hasn't played many games for a lot of the years he was active.

Oh yes the fateful 2015 nhl draft..soo much talent on that draft it ridiculous lol. I personally wanted Mathew barzal, but imagine if nj picked mikko rantanen (admittedly I didn't want him)??great pick by Colorado in hindsight..however I don't think pavel zacha was such big reach as most of the scouts believed he was a top 10 pick (I sure didnt) I believe he was #6 on McKenzie list so maybe nj went with that... |

Mueller 1 year 1.4mill - dmarsden2988
1-way deal. We can only have so many 7th dmen on the active roster. interesting.
Subban, Vatanen, Severson, Greene, Carrick, Mueller, Smith, and Butcher still.
I count 8. Carrick is on a 2-way deal. Very interesting, especially since Carrick is better than Mueller, IMO. |
