You have to be a good player and be media savvy, the guys seem to respect him so I think he’s a great choice.
- Pacificgem

He's such a well rounded player, he's improved every year, level headed and I think he will be a warrior in the playoffs (if/when we ever make it)

I see him on a very similar path as Ryan O'Reilly

Why does voicing his opinion make him sound like Trump? He hasn’t offended any minority groups.

In the ‘21/‘22 season on the books are:

Eriksson 6
Horvat 5.5
Miller 5.25
Ferland 3.5
Rousel 3
Beagle 3

Myers 6

That’s only 7 players under contract for $32.25m add Boeser at 7? 39.5. Add Petey and Hughes at 10 each? 59.5. If the cap goes way, way up to 90m, they have 20 to sign:

5 forwards
6 defenders
2 goalies

They will have some challenges to overcome.

I can't began to examine how many things are wrong in this post.

WTF cares what some dumbass that sits back and has nothing better to do than criticize positive moves and play with himself while doing so.

Ohh Dimitri does like Benning is spending to the cap, quick lets start a tweet and see how many dumbasses will repost and start a freak fest.

Well looks like he got at least one dumbass,

- Nuckerwhatever

I really never understood why so many people care about what a team spends on players? It's fine if you win a cup to spend to the cap and get kicked by it in the future but if you spend like Ottawa and barely make it over min, you get mocked horribly for how bad the team is run.

Just need to figure out a way to shed a couple of bad contracts. Then hopefully things will fall into place.

Because you dismiss the value of cap space and the benefits it can bring while you’re building.

They will buyout/trade Sutter and LE before then. Book it.

I watched O'Reilly in the last final games and had the same thought about Horvat. You can see him coming up big in the playoffs and being a real difference maker when it matters most. Didn't he do that one year in junior?

I've also always believed that if you're trying to win a cup, it's better to have two Bo Horvats than one Auston Matthews or Connor McDavid.

Everyone used to poop all over ROR, even the first half of last year when the Blues were floundering. Even though winning the cup is a team thing, it changes people’s perceptions of you.

Sure. I mean, might as well give JB the Burke treatment. He’s built the new core, no need for him i guess. I like the style of team he’s made and this year i think is when we really start ti see the fruits or his labour. That being said, im always down to replace someone with a better person. Maybe next summer there will be a better one out there.

I’ve always been a huge ROR fan and was one of few people wanting him. Same with Evander Kane who has put it all together and is a wrecking ball now. I still like the team though. I also really like that JB had the cohones to gamble big on podz.

Burke never built a team through drafting, other than having the third pick in 99, his MO was trades. But I get the comparisons.

Benning built a core from terrible finishes, not a hugely difficult task, hopefully the next gm can build on that yes.

as a fan i am critical because we all know how damn hard it is to win the cup and the margin for error can be so small. every team overpays but the ones with the best odds typically have the least consequential errors; i dont criticize just to bash i just want the team to win before i die and give itself the best chance to do so

I like the pick for the Russian kid as well, I honestly believe our drafting is more a product of Brackett than Benning since 2016. After the Virtanen and Juolevi picks I think he reverted over to Brackett.

He was a part of the London team that won back to back OHL Cups (and in the finals he scored the game-winner with a second remaining) but they didn't win the memorial cup either time. He was always a beast. I like how he can score from everywhere, off the rush, down low on the PP, screening/tip ins, buries a lot of garbage/rebounds, got a pretty deadly shot in the slot as well - now if only Petey could teach him the one timer. Bo is exactly the kinda guy you need to win a cup.

And maybe it should be.

Maybe they missed the playoffs last year because there was no C

- 1970vintage

I've wondered the same thing. Teams need a captain, it's part of identity

I also like the idea of players picking.....ultimately coach still has final say

And to think we could've had Konecny over Boeser and Glass over Pettersson....or better yet Vilardi over EP!!!

The Boeser pick was great, and it was Benning seeing that he could shoot the puck, great pick. I never dismissed that. I’ve just seen Brackett be way more in the spotlight when it comes to answering questions about why they picked who they did.

From what I’ve read, Brackett, Delorme and Gradin were the biggest proponents for picking Pettersson.
