Strictly a matter of betting on himself. Leafs can only offer a 6,7 or 8 year deal or a bridge deal. They will not sign Mitch to a contract that makes him a UFA at the same time as Matthews. (also 4 year deal is a non-starter) Bridge deal would be better for both sides at this point. It will give Marner enough time to figure out that Ferris is a douchebag idiot incompetent imbecile and move on to the next deal. - winsix

Cuase year 4 will be a lockout, and nobody gets paid unless its bonus Laiden.
3 year deal takes him to the lockout so I doubt thats on the table either. |

UFAs are garbage. The only good one in the last decade has been Tavares. The key is all these high picks and signed back with their teams.
New York would sign Bobby Holik for 9 million per before the cap. Yeah... - RogerRoeper

last year was bad.. - PatC80
So was Hutch. He ended up backup for the Marlies. Watching him play physically hurt me. |

OK. That makes sense.
Although 4 years still gets him into the lockout and it's pretty much a guarantee that he'll get a lot of bonus money. |

I actually think that Dubas has done a pretty good job of limiting CAP space. Leaving enough that Marner will/should have to sign a fair deal, and not an over-payment. - GreatGigInTheSky
No Gm has done a better job this summer than Dubas. And the GM I said that about last summer won the cup (Blues)

While I agree Dubas has done a very good job so far, the biggest piece of his summer has yet to be done.
I'd wait before giving him his medal. |
