As per the above sentence, looks like you yourself could use Hooked on Phonics.

Oiler fans have a habit of hating players who make to much money. Yes Lucic is overpaid, quite abit. But so was Neal.
If Lucic was at $2.5mil/yr alot of team would have wanted him, so he's not as bad as Oiler fans say.
Also Edm and Calgary are not the only teams with over paid players, probably every team has a few.

I think Lucic will help Calgary.
Lucic had a hard time getting a fight because almost no one would fight him, not because he wouldn't. Lucic is still feared, and can still intimidate.

He will make Tkackuk have more freedom and that is gonna really suck for opposing teams

- ifiwasgm

You are so wrong... Lucic is beyond bad. Whatever line hes on is where offence goes to die. He can literally drag a whole team down. His physical game is overrated.

"bUt hE's TrAINiNg wItH rObERtS aNd McDaViD"

Any oiler fan who thinks Neal is going to come in to a losing culture, when he couldn't come close to hacking it with a winning culture and winning team (minus the playoffs where they didn't have an answer for Mackinnon, Rantanen, Compher and Co) and be a difference maker, is smoking the hard stuff.

I didn't realize HOW disfunctional the flames truly were...seems to make sense now why Reaves said no, stone said no, kadri said no,Smith said no and Neal feels like he hit the jackpot to go to edmonton...a coach who makes situations personal with players and buries talent with a reputation like Neal of toughness and scoring every year but in Calgary down the line...explains why the hurricanes took of when Peters left...I guess its possible Neal just all of a sudden wanted to ruin his career and not care in Calgary where everywhere else he was a perfect teammate...or more likely something in the water bottles in Calgary...

Will you just get the (frank) off the Flames thread? You are a clueless moron! When I see your name at the bottom of a post - I ignore it - but I read the rest! You need to find some friends on the Oiler blogs who might actually (although doubtful) appreciate your input. NOBODY on the Flames threads wants to read your drivel! Get lost!!

Definitely had a bad series, I’ll give ya that. Hopefully the fellas will take it and learn from it, and the new additions can add some truculence.

the thing is, I think oilers win based on potential alone. neal very well could put up to 20-25 goals playing with McDavid. but that is the McDavid effect. he's just that good. for christ sakes, chiasson put up 17, and he missed time, and he's a bum. the real test would be putting neal on RNh's line or whoever they have as center below him. if he can play decent on any of those lines, oilers hands down won the trade.

we dont expect lucic to put up 15 goals. if we didnt trade neal, we wouldn't expect him to put up 15 goals either. but if lucic comes in here, accepts he's nothing more than a 3rd line player at best and plays his (frank)ing heart out, that would be more than we could say about neal. after watching neal play last year, he looked like he didnt give a poop.

so (frank)ing what about the nmc lucic has. there is zero chance treliving didnt address that before the trade. its completely blown out of proportion. no one in the right mind wants that ridiculous contract. the only reason why we traded for it is because neal was just as bad as lucic last year with an identical contract. but neal still believes he's a top six forward. he might be in Edmonton but he isnt in Calgary. lucic will embrace his bottom six role here, plus now he's cheaper than neal for us.

if anyone truly thinks they won this trade, they're retarded. potential wise maybe. but that's a crap shoot. if neal does play top line and gets 20-25, good for him. just remember, chiasson would have too if he didnt miss time. and how bad would chiasson be without McDavid? and if you think chiasson is a top 6 winger, you must be an Oilers fan

reality is, both teams may slightly benefit/get worse from this trade. but it sure as poop wont be substantial. I know the oilers can really use a win so congrats oilers. you've potentially gained 5 goals in the regular season.

His mission has been accomplished.

Now that I’ve had time to let the trade sink in, I don’t really care. Neal provided nothing for the Flames at a higher cap hit. If Lucic provides what Neal did, then it’s a wash as far as the Flames are concerned. Neal was never going to be given top line minutes again after he squandered his (limited) chances last season.

He’ll probably get 20+ goals next season but he was never going to work on the Flames roster and that much was evident about halfway through the season and confirmed in the playoffs where he (supposedly a playoff performer) took shifts off.

You missed the biggest factor of this trade, the fact that Lucic will have to be protected in the expansion draft if he does not waive his NMC

And they’ll lose who? Kylington? They’ll protect who they need to protect.

And that’s if he doesn’t waive. The expansion draft isn’t a huge deal to me. I’m probably out to lunch on this thinking, but it doesn’t concern me.

You forgot about Brent Seabrook.
- ItHossaGood

True, but context...he doesn't play for either the Flames or Oilers and now that Chia's gone, Edmonton won't be trading for him.

Nor I... its a year away and god knows what will transpire until then.

Yeah, and Tre has a full season to figure that out, aka, likely trade for pick/prospect of one of our dmen before the draft occurs

I wonder what BT does next lol.

Obviously Frolik is going to be gone and I don't see Brodie staying around either.

I worry a little that the trade market for Brodie shrank considerably following the draft and that Tre may have missed his chance to get the maximum return for him.

Definitely a few teams out there that could have interest given cap space/upgrades they might want. I'm of the opinion Tre would also prefer to ship him east, so I wonder if Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa or outside chance of Pittsburgh would have interest?

Frolik might fit well in Columbus or New Jersey? Unless it's a Neal/Lucic deal where we are taking back a contract that is.

Imagine if Kadri did not nix the trade? We would easily become the most hated team in the league. Then just trade JG for Marchand!

I would be ok to trade him for Ottawa 2nd round pick and a prospect or something like this..

We really need the money to pay Tkachuk and Brodie was terrible last year. Andersson was way better than him with Gio on first line anyway..
