Check out the buyout penalties for lucic vs Neal, and who has to be protected in the expansion draft then come back and say who won the trade lol. The player for player details dont matter at all, but the oilers are now able to get out from the mistake that was made while calgary just accepted the entire weight of a bad contract along with his NTC/NMC

Plus, we now have the ability to put Mcdavid on the ice against arguably the slowest and least skilled player in the league.

Calgary doesn't have to honor the the NMC/ NTC

Question for Flames fans... what's the feeling on Bennett? I can't imagine he will garner a hefty salary, but with needing to sign Tkachuk and probably one more player, is he someone they will move out to sign a cheaper player?

Looking at Edmonton’s roster, I struggle finding more than 5 forwards that I would be concerned about losing in the expansion draft that would be eligible

Dmen are more the issue. Once you account for McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge (if he re-signs) and Benson, you've gotta look at Klefbom, Nurse, Larsson (if re-signed) and if any of Jones, Lagesson or Bear come around. And this is without considering any additions that could come between then and now.

Kotkaniemi put up 34 points in 79 games as the youngest player in the NHL playing on the 3rd line and through injury for half the season, if you think he's overrated then you are just dumb as sh!t

I'm actually still in awe that lucic is a flame. No one fcking with us now... last year we owned the Pacific, 2nd overall. I think this might finally be the year we go on a deep playoff run. Lucic benny, tkachuk... good luck NHL

I think Oiler fans don't realize buy-outs are not good. Edm already has $4mil of dead cap space. Throw another $2mill on there, what the heck.
You won't be winning cups with $6mil+ of wasted cap space.
So who cares if Neal's contract is a better buy-out then Lucic's.

Also if Lucic waives his NMC, he doesn't have to be protected.
He almost certainly will, because it will help the team, and there is no chance Seatle would take him.

The NMC is still valid. Phil Kessel waived his to be traded to Pittsburgh. Then envoked it to prevent a trade to Minnesota. Just because you waive it once doesnt mean it no longer exists.

It’s up to the team acquiring him. They can decide to re-activate it or not.

Flames actually have 10 million available, counting Jon Gillies and Alan Quine on the cap, who will both start the year in the A. So closer to 11.5, and then again, it doesn't account for a likely Michael Stone buyout. So try 14 million available, which should be more than enough to resign everybody.

But hey, whatever is needed to fit the narrative...

...actually, they have $20M cap space...no wait...$25M! ...and and....Fleury and Al MacInnis are coming out of retirement...and Iginla too! They can afford to pay them because they have $27.5M cap space.
