Given Lucic is good defensively someone please tell me how many minutes he played short handed last season. - RonPielep
That would be none at all cause he was slow... |

Clearly Neal asked to be moved from Calgary going to Edmonton was a dream come true...so now it's kadri, mark stone, Mike Smith and now Neal...at least lucic agreed to go there...prob cause he still lives in edmonton... - oil90

For those thinking that Neal will play with McDavid and resurrect his career they will sadly be mistaken. He couldn’t play on the flames first line because he was way to slow! So if he’s to slow for the flames first line what makes people think he will be able to keep up with McDavid.
I would agree that if one of them is going to bounce back it will likely be Neal. But if he doesn’t the oilers will be paying 6.35 for 4 years vs 5.4 for Lucic.
And rumour has it part of the details still be worked out is that Lucic might be scratching his NTC all together.
As far as I’m concerned this was a win for the flames. They needed to add some grit to the team and Lucic brings that |

Hey Bro! Well..... to me Im trying to look at this & trying to see the glass half full.
Bottom line was that Neal was a horrible horrible signing. Tre needs to keep clear of his phone come July 1st's.
Word is Oilers will be eating anywhere from 10-15% of Lucics salary, no idea what this conditional pick is or based on. But here's the thing, Lucic's actual salary over the next 4 years is about $5.0mill less than Neal's even though Neal's buyout has better cap impact if Oilers have to go down that path. But we probably dont need to worry about a potential buyout situation for 2 years yet. Also heard that the situation with Neal & Peters was kept low profile & Neal had to go. Problem is his contract & performance had little value. Hence the trade where we didnt have to add to get Neal moved.
Now unlike many, I wanted Flames to get a nuclear detterent. I would have preferred Reaves, 1 year left at 2.75 mill but a/Vegas unlikely to trade him to a division rival & b/ they wouldnt take any $$$ coming back. So I guess we get Lucic. Neal still thinks he's a top 6 where Lucic we have a pretty clear role on the 3rd or 4th line & maybe some 2nd PP time to go stand in front of the net. Even if just for the BOA games Lucic comes to play, I can find some consoling in that. I think we should have gotten more for taking on the headache of that NMC & inevitable buyout in 2 years. But whatever.
Also heard some rumblings he maybe traded somewhere else, so who the fck knows.

Oilers retain 12.5% of Lucic contract and trade a conditional 3rd round pick in 2020.
So Flames have Lucic for cap hit of $5.25mill
Oilers have Neal + retention for $6.5mill. |

Nope Leafs gave up a first rounder to rid of his contract, got a 6 rounder in return. Pretty sure a 3 rounder is a win. |

He'll be a buyout or he'll do a Fleury & waive his NMC & Flames will have to pony up another asset to get Seattle to take him. Hope Francis is a nice guy..... lol |

You don’t save much on the buyout believe me....still on the hook for I think it was 50% of his salary....by the time it runs out it just isn’t worth it

A lot of this hinges on whether Lucic has to be protected. (it sounds like the does, but maybe he waives or something changes later on that front)
If you guys can find a way to not have to protect Lucic, then this isn't too bad. A pick and less cap hit for a somewhat worse player. |
