They had 11 double digit goal scorers
There was a good stretch in the second half where the top line dried up and the other 3 lines would do the scoring
Offence was not an issue at all for them - Redmile247
10 double digit scorers on a team now a days is about standard for any mid level team.

How does a Gillis return make you feel...? https://www.sportsnet.ca/...-nhl-not-general-manager/ - NuckUp
Interesting article, I like the idea of increasing rink size, and a larger management team, which Benning would benefit from.
I would go to a seminar and listen to what he has to say. |

Is the Euro game better than the NA game? I think that kind of feels like what he is alluding to.
I don't know if more chefs in the kitchen is always the best.
A bigger section of NHL scouts could certainly help. Or just better ones. |

A larger management team with defined duties would definitely help Benning. I prefer watching games on the bigger ice.

Interesting. I prefer the faster pace the smaller ice brings. I think it weeds out the less complete players. |

I don't think he would have changed anything in terms of sucking at that point. Just added to better depth now. |

I am okay with a larger management group if they are all on the same page.
I do wish Mike Gillis would take his sideshow on the road and try to sell what he is selling in Europe. He hasn't had any team show real interest in him in 5 or 6 years. I hate that he is trying to re-win the Vancouver fan base again.
I think taking advice from him is like someone trying to take investment advice from a snake oil salesman .

Yes getting rid of Duchenne seemed to be the turning point for them. Addition by subtraction. Consider Duchenne is on his 3rd team after that trade and the Ottawa scandal where he was In that cab mouthing off. Avs have been a much better team without him.
Now consider the avs turned him into byram.

Yes it really turned it around for them. Getting rid of negativity does wonders for the vibe of a dressing room. LE must go. |

Gillis likes innovation. I agree having assistants take duties to help free an overburdened position of a GM and Head Coach. Like having an agent negotiator, capologist, team rest and travel cycles coach, for example. These are some duties that can allow the main guys to be more sharp to focus on decision making.
Though maybe try his other ideas out first at the AHL level. Perhaps the NHL hires him if it is big picture stuff to change the game. As an adviser to a team such changes against the system are less effective. |

It had nothing to do with physicality or being soft. MacKinnon and rantanen went off where tkachuk, Monahan and Johnny were Mia. - Codes1087

Changed dynamic. Duchene is only one man. He's just a big influence though. Sometimes the best player aren't always the right players. |
