I think the bigger issue will be how competitive they are next season. Hall’s been around for a bit now and he’s barely had a sniff of the post season. I’d imagine he’s pretty eager to play playoff hockey. It their goalies can’t stop the puck I bet they have a hard time resigning him. - CubanBuffet
I agree with you. I think he'll see enough young talent around with a few good vets that he's likely to re-sign if winning is his primary motivation. They're a year removed from being a playoff team, so adding Hughes and PK should help them at least be close.
There aren't a whole pile of teams out there with the cap space to sign him in a much better position. |

Speaking of A New Hope did you see the re-done scene with ObiWan vs Vader done with modern effect and speeded up with much better choreography?
It's f'n outstanding.

Holy crap! Much better than almost any of the film scenes. That and the other videos like it.
The guys making these should be making the movies instead |

I don't believe I said that he wasn't a good player. Just not top 3 in the league. I named the players that I think are better than him.
Without a doubt he is better than he actually is because he plays in Toronto. 100% without a doubt, if you have to go to "underlying" numbers to make a claim that he's a top 3 player in the league. He's not. - manvanfan
I think that goes both ways.
There's a whole pile of people, myself included that want to see him fail because he's a Leaf. Despite the injuries, he's averaged over 35 goals per season and over a PPG since his rookie year.
He doesn't even get to play with Marner, nor Nylander for the most part. There's probably still guys here that think Laine is better. |

I'm not one of those people. Great players are always recognized, no matter the team or the person. I don't really like Marchand because he's a tool but I wouldn't put him down a list or omit it because I don't like him.
Matthews is a very good player. As the article states, if only he played 3 minutes more a game things would be different. No one really knows what would happen with those minutes until it happens.
He is youngest on that list but you didn't ask me to go by age.
Laine isn't better, never was, never will be |

The Leafs could have traded Matthews for Jones and saved $6M in cap space for 3 years.
Think of the parameters of a deal like that before they did anything else this offseason.
They could have him and Reilly playing nearly half the game. |

I thought they had a great rebuild going until they signed Tavares. Just my opinion, but they signed a great player to a huge contract for a position they weren't in need of.
The last couple of years of that deal could be costly. |

He’s been the best failed GM in our history, only one other time has the franchise drafted so consistently high. |

Pretty much started the first time with Luke Schenn and Kadri in 08 09. Or at least an attempt to retool. Then again in 12 with Reilly. |

He will likely get a chance to challenge for a role on the Maple Leafs’ fourth line where he will have to beat out a number of solid players, including Jason Spezza, Nick Shore, Nic Petan, Kenny Agostino, and Frederik Gauthier.
Garrett Wilson signs for the TML.
It's a good thing their top 6 can play 45 minutes a game. |

They traded 2 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel in 2009, that pretty much aborts all rebuild plans.
In 2015 when they traded Kessel is really when this rebuild started, they just sucked until then. They moved Phaneuf later in the season as well. |
