Actually clearly a Gillis thing but keep building your narratives.
- golfingsince

Gillis said it was FA's fault. FA said it was Nonis fault. Nonis said it was Gillis' fault. Burke said it was FA's and Gillis' fault. AV said it was CoHo's fault. CoHo said it was AV's fault. Torts said it was Hansen's fault. WD said it was his own fault.

I can't build a narrative with all these misshaped parts. I need a bigger hammer. Can you hold the first nail for me?

He's still 21, 22 to start the season. Regardless, he's way above average in all 3 zones i'd say.

The Leafs got lucky actually holding onto the top spot.

He has a very dynamic skill set. One of the best in the league. Just waiting for the mental part of his game to develop and his durability is in question. I'm suspicious of his attitude as well.

He traded Larsson for Hall then just trade 2 2nds and a couple of fringe prospects for Subban.

He inherited a franchise that traded the 9th overall pick for a goalie that didn't get a win for over a calendar year.

Winning the lottery helps, but unless Schneider improves that's the ugliest contract on their books.

- golfingsince

Awesome trade. I was worried at first because we didnt know how the pick would pan out. Even a while after making the pick I was nervous.

Hoglander reportedly said at the Draft he was even ready for the NHL this fall. The 18-year-old Swedish winger is hoping to follow a similar path of fellow Swedes Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Elias Pettersson. They made the jump to the NHL just one season after being drafted.

I was listening to the draft on Sirius while talking to my brother. As soon as there was a pause in the action I called the trade.

The meltdown in here at the time was hilarious because the fans wanted Shink. Horvat is our MVP at the moment, you don't want that guy getting hurt.

Hischier is great, just like Elias. Taylor Hall is still a fantastic player when healthy and they just added Hughes. The 2 2nds hurt a bit but with any luck those picks should be in the 45+ range....maybe lower.

I like what the Devils have done far more than the Rags.

I would have agreed until I learned how fcking hardcore Panarin is.

They were smart to sell early last season. By seasons end no one even knew half the team.
- manvanfan

With their best player out for the season and their starting goalie unable to win a game, it must have been a pretty easy decision. That Hall injury might end up setting them up for years... If they can resign him.

I don't see why not as long as they offer market value. Playing in NJ is underrated. So close to the city (you can live there) with even less media attention than the Rags.

IF you've ever listened to sports radio or read media in NY, it goes Yankees than probably Giants, Jets, Knicks, Mets kind of depending on who's successful then Rangers, college sports Islanders, Devils.

I would, Hischier is more complete ATM. Hall played 33 games, so unless he's out most of the year again Hischier is going to score a pile more points.

Do you think Hughes will be close to EP totals?

- golfingsince

I have him pegged around 70 points for a full 82 games. That would be a little less than EP scored at.

I don't know if Hischier is more complete. Jack Hughes to me has an underrated defensive game. The games I saw him play in, reminded of watching EP defensively. Not super hard but just so smart, that transitioning the puck out was easier. He had to, to carry Zegras and Caufield.

I don't know if Hischier is ever going to be a ppg player in the NHL.

I've stirred up the Leafs thread by suggesting Jones's value is worth closer to Matthews than Marner.

I think he's top 10. Name 10 that are undisputedly better than him.
- golfingsince

Right now in no order
Kucherov
McDavid
Crosby
Bergeron
Mackinnon
Barkov
Point
Marner
P. Kane

We could dispute this all day long but he's not the best defensive centre, he's not the highest scoring player, not the highest goal scorer. Could look at all the fancy stats in the world.

Those are the players I would put ahead of him.

He played against Men last season but he's not ready. EP scored at over a ppg and came over and couldn't score at a ppg. He's not ready unless he outscores EP this season.

I think the bigger issue will be how competitive they are next season. Hall’s been around for a bit now and he’s barely had a sniff of the post season. I’d imagine he’s pretty eager to play playoff hockey. It their goalies can’t stop the puck I bet they have a hard time resigning him.

I don't believe I said that he wasn't a good player. Just not top 3 in the league. I named the players that I think are better than him.

Without a doubt he is better than he actually is because he plays in Toronto. 100% without a doubt, if you have to go to "underlying" numbers to make a claim that he's a top 3 player in the league. He's not.
