Chara won at 34, has been back twice since. Chelios, Pronger made it with 3 different teams in his 30's, Bourque. That's just off the top of my head and still aside from Pronger (what a beast) the talent around them is a HUGE factor.

A single player certainly doesn't win you a cup. Other than Chara most of those were pretty well pre salary cap era.

Sure it's pre-salary cap era, but it doesn't change the fact that the player played a large role in the team's success.

I don't expect anyone thinks Subban is going to re-up long term at anywhere near $9M after this deal unless the cap limit just explodes.

I really like that move for NJ. The prospects they gave up aren't anything special ( mostly AHL or depth) and 2 2nd round picks.

Edit: Pronger got the Oilers to game 7, was their leading scorer. Granted he didn't turn 30 for another few months after the Cup but had Roloson not got injured in the finals...... He was that good. A grade A bumhole, but good.

lol

Speaking of A New Hope did you see the re-done scene with ObiWan vs Vader done with modern effect and speeded up with much better choreography?

It's f'n outstanding.

For a team like NJ that doesn’t have much of an identity, has cap room, young stars that will need more than money to stick around in Jersey the trade is a no brainer. I think P.K. will do well there.

Hischier is great, just like Elias. Taylor Hall is still a fantastic player when healthy and they just added Hughes. The 2 2nds hurt a bit but with any luck those picks should be in the 45+ range....maybe lower.

I like what the Devils have done far more than the Rags.

Ya kind of agree on that...now it's just a question if all those ego's can find chemistry.

I read that Shero asked Hall about PK before he trade for him, seeing as how Hall's a UFA soon. I guess Hall gave it the thumbs up.

Hughes will be interesting, but he has 2 #1 overalls ahead of him on the roster. The only thing Hughes really has is he was undisputed for like a year and a half.

Regardless, by the time he's the best player on the team they should be challenging for their division as the Caps and Pens age.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes out scored Hischier this year.

They were smart to sell early last season. By seasons end no one even knew half the team.

Wow. James Tanner writes that Matthews is at least the 3rd best player in the league.

I would, Hischier is more complete ATM. Hall played 33 games, so unless he's out most of the year again Hischier is going to score a pile more points.

Do you think Hughes will be close to EP totals?

Media group think. Leafs were the cup fave the last 2 seasons as well. They have a whole 1st line of generational players.

I think he's top 10. Name 10 that are undisputedly better than him.

I wouldnt be surprised if J. Hughes looks like he should have gone to college for the season when camp/preseason is done.

He's still 21, 22 to start the season. Regardless, he's way above average in all 3 zones i'd say.

The Leafs got lucky actually holding onto the top spot.

He traded Larsson for Hall then just trade 2 2nds and a couple of fringe prospects for Subban.

He inherited a franchise that traded the 9th overall pick for a goalie that didn't get a win for over a calendar year.

Winning the lottery helps, but unless Schneider improves that's the ugliest contract on their books.
