Tom Wilson is nothing like Kunitz hahahahah.
- j.boyd919

Thats a lot of laughing at one's own comment.

I see two very physical wingers who forecheck(ed) hard and create(ed) a lot of space for their linemates, both a bit better at scoring than creating...except Tom is much bigger and plays a little more amp'ed up than Kuny did....hence the steroids and crack.

Yes, but Tom Wilson, as much of a Richard as he is, will usually back himself up on the ice after throwing a cheap hit without having to be chased all over the ice.

I also think Kunitz was a much better player overall.

I think (think) he meant that Kunitz had at least a shred of care for the safety of other players, and while he hit hard (and dirty at times), he probably didn't want to see players seriously injured, where as Tom Wilson seems to make seriously injuring players his primary objective.

But I stand by my comment as well.

I guess they're really the same since they didn't make the arbitrary list of the sorta but not really 100 best hockey players ever while bonafide stars like Toews did.

Ovechkin - Crosby - Voracek
Jones - Hamilton

Lundqvist

Extras:
Subban
Barzal

Yeah. Geno is still great but he's not what he used to be. He's starting to fade a little bit.

He only scored at a 25 goal pace last season, granted his sh% dropped a little.

I mean in multiple ways.

Kunitz wasn’t a cheap shot artist.
Kunitz was a better goal scorer.
Kunitz was better at finding the soft pockets in the ice to shoot from.
Kunitz passing is better than Wilson’s

Until I see Wilson put up 60-65 points a season, the only similarity is that he’s “physical.”

In an attempt to counter the overwhelming skill of the Ryan Wilson team, Dean Lombardi puts together this team:

Kreider-Staal-Wilson
Johnson-Braun
Schneider

Jenner
Martin (forgoing proper roster construction to double down on #gritness)

I love Slavin, he's an elite shutdown guy, but Dougie produces goals and shots at an obscene rate. Defending, Slavin is going to win one-on-one battles vs 99% of the guys in the league, but Dougie is probably top five among NHL D in producing offense.

That’s fine but I’m taking slavin every day. Same reason I’d take a provorov over a ghost. Etc. I value those elite shutdown types more who are no slouch offensively

That's fair. Let me put it this way, if building a team for the long term, it's Slavin all day.

In an all-star situation, It's Hamilton.

You'd take Giroux over Crosby???

Edit: Figured he was listed as a C, I see they have him listed at all 3 forward spots.

At now almost 32 years old, there's a decent chance Giroux finishes his career with less than 300 goals scored.

He just had 2 of his best offensive seasons the past 2 years and played all 82 games in both of them. I think he'll finish with over 300G and 1000P.

Edit: He needs 64 goals to get to 300. If he plays 5 more years and averages 13G or more, he'll pass 300.

At the moment I think Holtby is probably the best proven goalie in the division, although I think the division as a whole is a bit weak on goalies. I always thought Lundqvist was slightly overrated, even in his prime, but maybe it is just that the Pens were/are usually so good at burning him. Prior to this past FA start Bobrovsky was hands down the best in the division and is one of the best in the league.

Goalies are tough to evaluate because they depend so much on the defense in front of them. For example, it is easy to make the case for Brodeur being the best goalie of all time but at the same time, he also had one of the best defenses/systems in front of him for much of his career. At the same time, MAF is frequently criticized for his performance in the 2012 playoffs but he also had the most horrid defenses/systems in front of him that hung him out to dry constantly, forcing him to make many impossible saves, which eventually led to him losing his nerve.
