How can the same people get triggered by the same posters, saying the same things, day after day, week after week, year after year?
Wise up, jeez.

Carolina, Islanders, Penguins, are they all really better than us? On paper I like our team. - ClaudeFather
Just Carolina, IMO. They are underrated by “experts” as well. We have the potential to beat them all (Metro teams), but that is true for half the Metro. I rate the Flyers beneath Washington and Carolina but parallel or a hair above Pittsburgh, the Devils and Islanders. Columbus and the Rangers are a bit more questionable than the rest.
We’ll see. It was hard to conceive of a year where seemingly everything went wrong. It just as hard to imagine everything going right, but I have to at least think that every thing will not go wrong again.

Who is the third line RW? 4th line of Laughton/Raffl/Pitlick? Average at best.
Need bounce back years from Gostisbehere, and Provorov. Not to mention Hart who is very talented and looked excellent at times last year, but you can't just pencil him in for a .910-.915 save %. Injury issues with Elliott. Niskanen and Braun both coming off bad seasons. You act as if there aren't a lot of question marks. - PLindbergh31
All this is reasonable.
But if none of this gets better that is two full seasons of a perfect storm of bad luck and bad decisions. I just don't see all this happening two seasons in a row.
There are a lot of ifs, for sure...but most if not all are reasonable predictions. I seriously doubt we go through 8 goalies again. I really believe Provorov will have a bounce back year. I think one of the kids wins the wing role and actually produces. (that one is a BIG if)
They are going to be better, even with all the "ifs", any reasonable person has to see the moves make us a better team than last season.

Therrien article now online: https://www.nhl.com/flyer...nd-power-play/c-308295650 - bmeltzer
Nice interview Bill. You got a lot of good responses from him.
From the sound of his comments it really seems he wants Coots, Hayes, Patty, and Laughts down the middle. There was a lot of talk about Laughton on the 3rd line wing position but it doesn’t sound that is where he is leaning towards right now. He did say that they will have a lot of conversations rolling into camp but the staff really seems to value the middle and the back end first.
So more ? With that 3RW right now. They have options but nothing that jumps out at me.

Well 82 to 94 isn’t going to get you in the playoffs. Better hope they increase by more than 12. - PLindbergh31
I said at least. I think we get to 98 |

So you think they’ve closed an 18 point gap in the standing last year on the Penguins? We’re going to find out - PLindbergh31
Pitsburgh did that on their own. Chucky is a downgrade on Kessel, Tanev is not good, Maata is gone
You are looking at a D core that got worse and slower. An offence that downgraded the quality of wingers against a team that added stability to the Defense, filled the 2C role that plagued our offence all last season, bounceback seasons for Ghost and Provorov and the the possibility of younger players stepping up.
We are going to be a good team. |

Look at it all in a different way. The Pens made the playoffs by 3 points last season. Do you all Think losing Kessel, Matta and only gaining Galchenyuk and Tanev, while not fixing their D or Goaltending is gonna help them make the playoffs while every other team in the Metro other than Columbus has improved?
I think the Pens lose 10 points this coming season and get 90 total...and they're on the outside looking in come playoff time. Especially if they lose any one of Crosby, Malkin or Letang for an extended period of time...which is entirely possible |

This is how I see it too.
Then when you add in the other metro teams..
CLB: clear favorite to be bottom of the metro
CAR: can they repeat what they did? We’ll see. They’ll be good though.
NYI: can they repeat what they did as well? Their season MVP (Lehner) isn’t there anymore
NYR: they got the shiny new toys with Trouba and Breadman, but what about their depth and most importantly, how’s Henrik?
WSH: they’ll prob win the Metro if not get 2nd in Metro
NJD: like the rangers, got shiny new toys but they lack depth.
I believe we’ll be good, and at the minimum, a more consistent team. No long losing streaks this year (knock on wood). We addressed needs and we need a few guys to bounce back (Ghost, Provy) and if we can just improve our special teams we should be good. I can’t say we’ll be a top metro team, but I think this division is up for grabs.

I think the Jackets are gonna be more competitive than that. Team still has two dominant defensemen and a really good first line. Nyquist is a seriously underrated add. Merzlikins is finally crossing the pond. They still got cap space to leverage in trades, with teams desperate to dump salary. And Torts employs a blue collar system that isn't driven by star power.
As for the Pens, Crosby and Malkin have never missed the PO's since they joined up. I have a hard time believing that they'll start now, despite everything.
Jack Hughes and Taylor Hall flying with Subban and Butcher triggering breakouts... could be pretty disgusting. Don't sleep on the Devils, either. |

Hall and Hughes will score a combined 150 points.
So will the rest of the team. |
