That trend has been happy basically since the year of LE, KO, AL, ML, DB were handed 6 year deals that none of them have turned out well.

Paid earlier and paid before you deserve to be paid. Paid where the cap would project you to be paid.

You can get paid without breaking your teams cap though. Should a player like Boeser be worried about taking a 3 year deal at say 6.5 to get possibly 10 for 8 years after that?

This is what I’m saying. I think the best young players will be angling to a) get a significant pay bump coming off their ELC - in the $7m range, but choose to sign shorter deals so that b) they can sign their monster contract when they are 26/27 instead of 29/30.

It will amount to teams paying higher salaries for younger players in their prime years and lower (relatively) salaries for the veteran guys who have proven it but are declining.

I mean, I guess it’s already happening, but I think it will continue to go that way even more.

Carole I regularly read your articles and quite respect your open mindedness to the general sentiments of other people around hockey circles. However, when it comes to the "Value" of contracts I feel it is a quicksand topic of discussion.

Like all Canadian teams - even Toronto and Edmonton - where the top end players have higher ceilings in my opinion : Vancouver is in the basket of competing against large US markets with several opportunities to either seek anonymity or tax savings or both.

I know for the past 15 years or more the buzz word here in Vancouver is having to pay more to get the top end talent to be attracted to come spend their careers or a large portion in Canada - AND on the west coast where travel is 3 or 4 X that of the eastern seaboard teams

So in a nutshell - there is really NO Value in this argument of best value in terms of contracts because it is primarily determined by the UFA preferences. Tyler Myers for example would not be here if it weren't for some of these factors at play. #1. His wife is from the area #2. He was moving from a worse (sorry to my Manitoba relatives) market as far as amenities #3 He WAS paid top dollar and even at $6M he is regarded as a bargain given the scarcity of R-Hand shot defencemen - something the Canucks were specifically short of.

Thanks for your work and posted articles Keep the good work up We all appreciate it !!

If the team is in the position to spend to the cap, they should do it. But hey, be a crusty whiner if you want. They haven't played the games yet.

Exactly, so everyone's opinion at this point is valid because predicting the future is subjective.

For every crusty whiner there is a pom pom waiving, glitter dust sprinkling, glee fairy.

I’m not sure who the tweeners are? I mean, I don’t hate the moves this off season, does that upgrade me from hater to tweener? Or am I a hater to the core? I just don’t know anymore...

Agreed the Gretzky wine is crap. Sobeys had them on sale and I tried one and dumped most of it. Brutal.

I was more concerned with the "fairy" word. I literally meant the Tinkerbelle kind.

Never. You use it in cooking. Spaghetti sauce especially. Makes no difference how poopy it is.

Get an ice cube tray and fill it with poop wine. Freezes enough to be put in a big ziplock container and then you can just use a few cubes when needed.

Arthur Staple of The Athletic: Sources are saying that there is a seems to be a stalemate around the league with regards to free agents and potential trades. This is partially due to the group of unsigned RFAs that includes the likes of Mitch Marner, Brayden Point, Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine.

Been to 3 different camp grounds in the past month and I haven't been to them in years. They have all built nice new bathrooms around the camp grounds. It's much more luxury then when I went as a kid.

Open pit toilet. Your bag is like a mosquito version of a humming bird feeder.
